Just out of curiousity, have any of you convinced your friends directly or indirectly to get a Sony TR?

I know I’ve influenced a lot of people so far either here or at my local Starbucks. I have corrupted…err…influenced two close friends directly so far. And those friends still like me so they must be pretty happy like I am.

How about you guys and gals?

Definitely, a co-worker went out and picked up a TR1 after using my TR2 for an hour. Since I’m in a college town, most students have clunky Dells or Gateways. I may have convinced some people with my praise for the TR in BusinessWeek magazine too.

I work in the lab in my univ. so plenty of ppl see my TR and feel quite impressed by it. They all would love to have it but cant due to less cash…even for the cheapest TR. My boss too would love to have it but cant afford it too.

However, I have seen just 1 more person in my univ. with a TR.

i have done damage at bucks as well.  i would say at least two there and one co-worker is very close! 

heck gr00vy you probably have at least 100 under your belt from this site alone…..hey sony where is gr00vy’s commission check?

I’d gladly take the next TR (assuming there is one) as payment in lieu of a check… :wink:

But seriously, can you imagine how many of these things Sony would sell if they would just try to market them? I have so many people ask me what I’m using. They assume it’s an Apple (maybe because of the lighter color) and then are shocked when they see it’s a PC laptop. There seems to be this train of thought that all PC laptops are boring and gigantic…because that’s all they see at their local Best Buy (although my local one finally started selling TRs) and in the newspapers.

They need to do what Apple does and just stick them in some movies. Heck, Sony Pictures should cut a deal to put them in a few movies. I’ve seen commercials for the Z1 on TV but none for the TR. It may be different in other markets as I remember Sony UK having a brilliant commercial for their C1 Picturebook series. It’s the one where the guy’s at home working on his Picturebook and his wife comes home from shopping with a grin on her face. She goes into her room, changes into the sexy new lingerie she’s purchased and sneaks up behind her husband. She then fiendishly attacks him while he’s trying to concentrate on his typing. Of course, he must give in and she knocks him from his chair as she ravishes him. It then cuts to a boardroom with all these people stunned…and trying to look into the monitor to see what’s happening. For those who don’t get it….that dude was using the Motion Eye to video conference with his work/clients.    It probably wouldn’t get past the censors in the US but that sure would have made me search out that computer.

I think I have that file saved somewhere…I’ll post it when I get home.

gr00vy0ne.  I can’t wait to see the UK clip.  The British sense of humor is great and many of their commercials are classics.

Never seen the ad until now…very humorous!  I agree with you, gr00vy0ne, Sony should advertise the snot out of this notebook.

See! Wouldn’t that intrigue you? You may not buy that notebook but it would definitely put Sony on your brain when you go out shopping for them. Instead, you’re deluged with the lame Dell commercials (here in the US) which we all know are big and clunky and not necessarily designed well.

Unfortunately the province of Quebec (I live in Montreal, Quebec) does not allow Sony to sell any TR series due to the fact that Sony does not want to make any French version of it. 
People are impressed whenever they’d see mine - the design alone makes them wanna buy one - I had to get mine in the US.

Many people get impressed when they come to my office and see the little TR2A. Screen and weight seem to cause an immediate delight in almost everyone. I believe I’ve convinced my boss to buy a TR in his next trip to the US (sony doesn’t sell PCs here ...  :( ).

Same here, Julio.  Many of my Realtor colleagues stop and stare and ask a lot of questions which is both flattering and annoying.  Although I have not seen anyone in my office carrying one yet, it is just a matter of time. :twisted:

I have not seen any advert for a TR here in the UK. The only reason I found out was through a developer coming to my work with an old picture book. I thought wow, that is so cool! did some research on the web and tracked down the TR.
