This is somewhat TR related but doesn’t have to be. So, I noticed something interesting. Whenever I boot up my Sony TR, it uses a nice 285MB of memory right off the bat. Actually, it isn’t surprising at all since I purposely load a lot of stuff for convenience. I could trim it down but then I’d end up manually starting most of the stuff anyways.

At any rate, thank goodness for having 1GB of memory…anything less….would be criminal! 

Oddly enough, my desktop system only uses 130MB at startup.

Strange, are you loading the same exact apps on both systems?  If so, I wonder why the TR would use almost double the memory :?  Is there any way to modify this amount used at start up?

Oh, no, they’re not loading the same things at all. I know exactly why my TR is loading up so much stuff…it’s just amazing how much memory can be used without actually loading up any programs.

Well, I do have some stuff preloading that sit in the task tray. I have lots of little helper programs I run to enhance my Windows experience. You should see the size of my Explorer.exe in Task Manager. Mine is routinely around 50MB alone. I’d say the default install for Explorer.exe is only 15-20MB. I have a lot of Explorer Context sensitive plugins.

For instance, I have PicaView2 which allows me to right click on any image file and preview it quickly. And then I have Winzip intergration, Antivirus integration, WebDrive intergration, etc.
