Did anyone else catch the Maximum PC magazine review? It got a 9/10 and a very decent write-up. They complained about battery life and the lack of a scroll wheel…I think they had a bad demo because my battery is amazing.
If it’s ok with groovy i’ll scan the article…I’ll wait to hear from him before doing so…
If they’re complaining about TR battery life then those guys are smoking something because the TR’s standard (and extended) battery life is phenomenal compared to most laptops on the market.
I’ll have to check on it when I get home (on the road right now :( )...I guess you can scan the article and post it. I’m not sure if it’s entirely legal but we can always take it down if someone complains.
As much as I hate PDFs, it was the best way this time…
I am thinking about writing to the mag to tell them about their mistake with the battery…if enough of us write to them maybe they will print a retraction.

I just got back and picked up my copy and read it…and you’re right! We should write to them. I hate how these supposed experts fail to understand the products they’re reviewing. It’s obvious that they didn’t do nearly enough research before printing the article.
That whole battery argument is lame. If they even bothered to research it, they would know that the TR also has an optional extended battery that exceeds the capabilities of the P5020 without needing to sacrifice the optical drive. They also forgot to mention the built-in microphone…and the fact that you can load that bad boy up to 1GB of RAM.
I like MaximumPC mag but sometimes they’re reviews frustrate me because they gloss over so many things.

I already wrote an e-mail…lets all do it…they will post a retract. I love MaxPC but I liked it better when it was Boot {for those who remember}.
Hey, 9/10 Kick Ass is a good score for a notebook!
The battery aside, this is a good review compaired with others I have read here in the UK. Reviewers are obsessed with comparisons with much larger heavier notebooks. They just don’t get it!

Very true, which is one of the reasons I posted it…it seemed to be somewhat fair. If I remember correctly the Fujitsu was somewhat compared to ‘normal’ notebooks because they had no other option at the time…
[quote author=“gr00vy0ne”]I just sent my letter too! It will be interesting to see if we get a response or if they post something in the next issue.
Yeah, I remember boot! I was a charter subscriber! I also prefer the boot title better as well…but i’m sure that title didn’t sell as many copies.
IMO Boot was a much much better mag, but Max is still my favorite from what’s left. Boot was the reason I bought my USR Pilot when it debuted…first Palm PDA…their review was spot-on.
Is it possible they could have a point about XBrite consuming more power? I thought the article was pretty good and fairly unbiased. Of course the TR gets the nod for me any day. :D
Just a side note…when is it appropriate to use Mr. Green and the Ninja dude?
[quote author=“Lotus”]They said it wouldn’t run, but I could have /sworn/ that someone around here said that they had it running quite well on their TR.
I love playing Rise of Nations on my TR… I just wish it would run widescreen.
Rise of Nations was my all-time favorite game last year, I couldn’t stop playing it…lol.
