consider this : I am working on my TR with the AC power cord plugged in. I shut down the TR sometime later with the battery at full charge i.e. 47.73 whr. I UNPLUG the AC adapter only after the system has shut down completely. Next time, before pressing the power button, I plug in the AC adapter once again and then press the power button. Once windows is loaded I check the power panel and it reports that the battery has 47.44 whr and is charging. This happens everytime. If its on AC all the time shouldnt the battery be at full charge only? Anyone knows why it happens and if ne one else has noticed the same too.

I have also noticed that everytime I boot the system, the orange light for the battery on the front panel goes on for a fraction of a second…could it be some kind of test being done by the system to check for the presence of the battery which takes up some of the power?

Even though it’s not being used, the TR’s Lithium-Ion battery is like all other batteries in that it self-discharges. I’ve been using my TR exclusively on AC power for about a week now, and the battery was at 100% when I took it out. It’s at 89% now. Chalk it up to the nature of the technology I guess.

One thing about the battery that I was wondering about last night sitting and looking out into a dark room (not quite knowing what I was expecting to see..) - the end of the powerplug has this green light. Do you people leave the ac adapter plugged in constantly and just let that light burn?

Has anyone ever had the light burn out/fail due to the ac being plugged in too long?

thanks for ur response cellery…no wonder why the charge on my electric shaver also almost dies if i keep it unplugged for a few days :D

I use the original charger at my desk and a “Juice 70” while travelling.  This basically means that the original charger has been plugged in since I got the machine (almost 6 months ago).

my ac adapter has been plugged in for the past 2-3 weeks and the green light is still fine.

The TR uses the same ac adapter as the Z1.  I have had my Z1 for over a year and that cord has been plugged in for months at a time with no ill effects.  I wouldn’t worry about the light burning out.

:idea: Even if the light did burn out, it would have no effect on the adapters ability to charge your TR.

Is it possibly also supplying a little power to the motherboard?  If not how does it wake up the computer from hibernation when set to run something at a specified time in Task Scheduler?  From the clock power cell?

I’ve had troubles with the auto-discharge on batteries with subnotebooks for years. The Libretto L’s had a huge amount of discharge until I upgraded to the latest power management drivers and it slowed it a bit. Vaio U1 and U3 also had heaps. The best I’ve found is actually the Panasonic R1. But there is a way around it. I take the Battery off while I am not using it and reconnect when I need to fire it up. I’ve done some tests and it’s interesting; Battery left on and two days later with no use…..94% charge, Battery left off and two days later….....99% charge. So it seems as though the notebook is sucking some power out even when it is off. I got a U3 sent from Japan and it took 7 days, when it arrived the Battery was dead flat. The Panasonic R1 on the other hand arrived with 84% charge, go figure?
Also the light in the cord is LED powered so basically count on it out-living the subnote
