Just opened the box and noticed the main tape was removed. Had the sinking feeling that this was already opened… and it was. The bottom of the laptop rubbers were a bit worn, and all the plastic wraps were obviously opened. Aside from that, everything seems fine.

Was this a return or is this common? I’ve ordered from NewEgg many times in the past and never had this happen.

looks like a return to me. When i got mine from newegg, I didnt notice the bottom rubbers but am pretty sure the main tape was intact.

I understand NewEgg has pretty good customer service.  If you gripe enough about paying for a new unit and getting a returned laptop, you might get a credit or some free accessories.  Or you could give them bad feedback which would effect their rating.

However, if your TR is working perfectly without any functional defects, I would do nothing.  (I’m just lazy)

functional defects is the key point. If u are lazy like TruthSeeker :wink: , then I would just recommend u testing all ports and the drive to make sure that everything is functioning fine. If it were me, I would definitely want to return the laptop in exchange for a brand new piece for the simple reason that I paid for a new piece so I should get a new one too!

if there is nothing wrong with the notebook i would keep it.  i ordered a tr2ap1 from newegg and had 4 dead pixels.  i called them back the same day and they told me that they would not exchange it unless i had more than 8.  i called them back the next day and for some reason they accepted my request for the exchange.  they sent me back my replacement in like 4 days which i was very happy about.  i turned on my my replacement and this one didn’t have any dead pixels in the center area of the screen so i was happy.  couple days later i noticed just one in the lower rite of the screen…didn’t really care tho…so my point is if there is nothing wrong with your notebook just keep it.

I ordered my TR2AP1 from NewEgg and recieved an unopened unit.  It’s your prerogative to return or keep it, but I would be very miffed if I had paid $2,000 and received an opened item.  I don’t know if it’s legal to not do so (sounds a bit fraudulent), but most companies will notify you clearly that you’re not purchasing a new item.  Best Buy gives you a 10% discount for buying someone’s return, while Fry’s charges you the same price as new, but both have stickers on the items that clearly tell you what you’re buying.  That said, NewEgg is known for its good customer service.  I’ve never had to use it myself, but I’m sure you could work something out if you really wanted to ... perhaps even a discount.

I call it the profit /hassle ratio…
