i actually bought a tr1 while on the road in america. i was supposed to give a presentation using a large tv set, that’s all i knew. the laptop i had with me at the time was a fosa, which had tvout and worked great till i dropped it. so i had two days to figure something out and saw the tr1, fell in love, and decided that 2K was worth not having to juggle 15 lbs of pc equipment in one hand and a big mac in the other. i ASSUMED there was a tvout cause all the other sony’s i’ve had, and saw in compuse had one. well, you know the truth. so i had to figure something out and bought a tvview micro at fry’s. it works. it’s somewhat portable, needs no power adapter which was key for me, cause i hate all that stuff, and the output is what you would expect from a 70 usd device. i’d rather have a digital lcd projector, but one of those can cost as much as the tr1. to answer your question, i can’t see how those cables could ever work. ya need something to convert the vga signal to ntsc or pal or whatever ya need. if there is no circuitry, i can’t see how it would work, as there is no circuitry in the tr. i just finished investigating the use of a margi dvd-to-go card, which are ebay for 20 usd. they don’t work either. so i would recommend going to the aver website and checking out what they offer. the new tview micro is repackaged into a better looking doohickee and if it’s the same chips and whatnot inside, it does a great job for dvd movies, pictures, presentations but crap for showing the desktop and anything with small text. good luck, and feel free to post more about this cause i am always ranting about the topic. it’s really the only thing i have found lacking in the tr besides those cheesy speakers in the lid. oh, and the tiny right hand shift key. but that’s it. i swear.
