TR3MaNiaK, I’ve upgraded my TR2A from XP Home to XP Pro and it works great. I normally won’t upgrade an OS, but I did it with the TR because I couldn’t get the Power Panel to install.
Upgrading from Home to Pro:
1. Backup your data to something external and burn your recovery CDs if you haven’t already done so.
2. Disable any anti-virus software and disconnect from any network connections.
3. Insert the XP Pro CD and close any windows that may pop-up.
4. Click: Start > Run > Browse > My Computer > DVD/CD drive > i386 (folder) > winnt32.exe (double-click it), click OK. The installation program will run.
5. You’ll have a choice of an “Upgrade (Recommended)” or “New Installation (Advanced)” installation type, choose Upgrade and continue with the rest of the installation.
6. The first time you login, re-enable any antivirus software you may have and restore your network connections.
7. You will have to re-install the video drivers. Reinstall the chipset drivers too.
8. The camera will stop working. Go here for the patch http://www.siliconpopculture.com/sonytr/viewtopic.php?t=755
9. Visit Windows Update and install critical updates.
10. Restore your backed-up data and you’re done.
About the drivers:
Windows XP Home and Professional use the same drivers (both are Windows NT 5.1).
If you want a quicker installation:
Copy the i386 folder from the XP disk onto the C: drive C:\i386. In step 4, just type this in the run box: “C:\i386\winnt32.exe”. Then press enter. You won’t need the CD for the installation.
This has an extra benefit, Windows won’t ask you to insert the CD if you install optional Windows components.
USB 2.0 support wass added with Service Pack 1. Make sure you install SP1 or SP1a for native USB 2.0 support. If USB doesn’t operate a 2.0 speeds after you install SP1/SP1a, uninstall all USB controllers in device manager and reboot. Windows will install the new drivers installed with the Service Pack.
Have a nice day :D
