Hi all:

I have a TR3-A that was running fine. I plugged in an apparently bad microdive into a USB port.  Got shutdown and a black screen almost immediately. After several tries and about an hour the machine came back up.  Problem is the USB ports do not function and I get an error message “device not recognized” with nothing plugged in.  I’ve reloaded the drivers and even used recovery discs to rebuild the machine without success. Everything else works fine except for the memory stick reader.  Any ideas?  Fried motherboard or possibly just a daughter card?

I see that my post had a number of looks but no reply.  After a month or so I was able to acquire a daughter card for the right side of the machine.  This card contains a USB port and plugs for the audio. I was the same port in which I had originally plugged the faulty microdrive. Using threads found in this forum I was able to remove the old card and replace with the new one.  The machine booted up just fine, but the problem persists.

I now assume that a USB controller chip on the motherboard was fried.  Since chip replacement is beyond my scope, does anyone know of a source for a replacement motherboard?

Sorry to hear your TR has been damaged :( It sucks when things like this happen. I believe your best option is to purchase a faulty TR from eBay, as it is likely to be cheaper than buying a working motherboard on its own, and you will have access to spares should another fault develop on your TR at no extra cost or wait.

I suppose that in the mean time, you have done something to fix your TR, would you mind sharing your experience on this post? Thanks.

i was able to come up with a new motherboard which solved the problem.
