Has anyone had any issues trying to connect to an external monitor? I have tried connecting to a 40” LCD a couple of times. The FN F7 combo works, but all I get for choices is “LCD Only / Setup”. No matter what I select, nothing happens. Yes, the 40” LCD is set on external / computer connection.

When I use the Display function in the Control Panel section, nothing really happens either. Does anyone have any ideas?

meant to reply to this earlier, just a thought did you try bios setting expand display or something like that… was going to try it but no time as usual…

Here are some screen shots for you BladeRunner. I appreciate the help as I am not sure what is going on.

LCD Screen Expansion in the BIOS was already set to Yes.

When I do the Fn F7 combo for the LCD/Video, this is the image I get. No matter if I choose “LCD Only” or “Setup”, nothing really happens.

When I go into the video controls, I do see the screen 1 and 2 options, but no matter what I do here, nothing happens. Even when I select the box “Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor”, nothing happens. No matter which number I set as default, nothing happens.

I am having exactly this same problem! Did you find a solution?

Had a play just now and got mine working.

Display Properties - Settings - Advanced -Intel(R) Extreme Graphics - graphic Properties.

from the new window that opens I get display choices on the left see images below..

You need to choose monitor and then set true colour and a resolution that your monitor will support before applying. If it cannot display the settings you choose it will revert to notebook screen in 15 seconds.. same applies when you go back to the notebook. 3rd image shown expanded onto monitor although my monitor (native res 1280 x 1024) doesn’t work well with TR’s 1280 x 768 nominal output.

Works for me though… I’m using standard (restore disc) VGA driver with TR1mp uk spec.

Wow, over a year later I finally get back to this post lol.

Anyway, here is what I am looking at. Originally, I thought maybe because I had updated the video driver to a newer version (6.14.10.3722) posted elsewhere on this forum that would be the problem:

So I rolled the driver back to the original driver as you have BladeRunner:

I thought that fixed it, because after the first reboot, I had all those options on the left side for monitor, notebook, etc. So to be safe, I rebooted one more time. Back to square one. I still do not have all those options on the left side like you do BladeRunner. But, here is something funny, why do I have these options when I right click on the desktop?

Nothing happens with anything. I am not sure how to fix this issue now. Am I doing something wrong? One other note, on the Display Properties under the Settings tab, by default, even though I have tried to change it so many times, my laptop is set to 1. Plug and Play Monitor option. Could that be why?

Wow blast from the past, just had a look at mine and it works fine still, only other thing I can think of is your monitor..

It wont give you any options unless it can see you have another plugged into the sub-D port and switched on. If it still doesn’t work and you know the monitor & vga cable are good it might be the ribbion of the sub-D socket on the TR mainboard is not in or all the way in, or even the bracket is not earthed, or sub-D socket is damaged?? Is it possible you forgot to reconnect this when you had it apart, its easy to miss?

Failing that it could be a motherboard fault, although I think unlikely as I’ve not ever come across it before…

I can’t see your original post’s pictures so not sure what you are trying to do (same desktop on each monitor or extended desktop), but from experience I find the best place to set up is Control Panel > Intel(R) Extreme Graphics as that seems to bring up a completely different dialog box (see attached) compared to the tab in Display Settings. From here you can set it to dual display clone or extended desktop as well as choose the primary and secondary devices and how they are arranged.

PS. Having some problems with attaching the image so it is basically a box with 4 tabs (Devices, Color, Schemes, Information) and down the left side four big icons for Monitor, Notebook, Intel(R) Dual Display Clone and Extended Desktop. Clicking on each gives the settings for each setup.

irishsumo - the image you attached is where I am having the problem. In the left grey area, you have 4 choices. I only have 1 choice - Laptop. So I can do anything you are talking about :(

Bladerunner - the cable attachment inside might have been slightly moved or disconnected when I had the laptop open.

I appreciate the help guys. I am not sure when I will open my laptop again - maybe in a month or so, but I will be sure to post what I find. It is my belief that the video connection is probably bad.

Hi Samurai - I cracked my machines open this morning to do some work on them, and while I was there, pulled out the ribbon (circled red in the picture) from the external monitor port to the mobo and booted up. That Intel graphics wizard shows only the “Notebook” option as you described it with that ribbon out so that’s your best bet I reckon.

As a related note, I took the picture from my SZ Vaio and I have to say that a swivelling web cam like the TR has is so much easier to use when taking pictures of anything other than yourself!

Wow! Thanks for being so proactive in helping me troubleshoot Over the next couple of weeks I will probably take the laptop apart and check that connector.

After trying to install a wireless N card that was too long, I looked to see if I could figure out why the external monitor feature is not working. Low and behold, it was that cable you circled irishsumo! I never bothered looking in that area. So now my external monitor feature is fully functional.

Quick question - trying to get my camera to work here, and the screen says “NO INPUT”. I’ve swapped the innards of the camera with one that I know works, and am at a loss to where it might be failing… any ideas?

You got me on that one. My motion eye didn’t work at all, did the modification outlined in this forum and it worked immediately. The only thing I would look for would be to maybe follow the lines / cables that connect it to see if they are disconnected lol. Funny I would suggest this since this is what you suggested to me

That was what I was afraid of! I’m fairly sure it isn’t to do with either end of the cable and I have no desire to open the lid up as that was a fairly scary thing to do last time… I got worried with the amount of force it takes to separate the two halves glued together onto the screen itself! AND that was with an already broken screen!

Cheers for that - not too fussed about it anyway… trying to get Win7 working well on it.
