I want to replace my Toshiba 1.8 inch HD with the SSD 1.8 inch as the Toshiba is running hot everytime (it’s normal though).  The only one I know that is straight compatible is the 1.8 inch Samsung, but I do not see this on sale anymore.

Does anyone know any other 1.8 inch SSD HD that is fully compatible with the Toshiba (in terms of the connector)?

I was fortunate enough to get a 1.8” Samsung off of Ebay from someone in Texas, USA. It was $150 + $8 S&H and it works beautifully! I love having it installed and as BladeRunner has said before, it will be THE single biggest improvement in speed. From the time I push the power button to the time I have to enter sign in and password - 20 seconds to get there!

Transfer speeds are incredible and installation of software is like nothing you have seen before. I am running XP Pro with 1GB of RAM and haven’t really tweaked anything other than removing the typical junk software.

Finding them may be a challenge. I decided to not go for the 32GB Samsung because I realized, I only use about 8 - 10GB of hard drive space since I keep ALL my files off ALL computers. I didn’t install Microsoft Office because I use the free, non-bloated version from OpenOffice.org. I also didn’t install Adobe Pro like I used to and instead used a free, less resource hungry version of Adobe - Foxit Reader. My applications are all small resource using apps - except XP Pro. Secondly, 32GB was still a little too high and difficult to find. 16GB has really served me well

To find the 16GB SSD, I searched at least 5 times a day on Ebay, simply typing in Samsung SSD. Results vary between 30 - 60 auctions, not all actually being what you are looking for. Honestly, as BladeRunner has also said before, I wouldn’t recommend putting any other SSD in the TR unless you are positive of the reliability and compatibility.
