My TR2MP does not start anymore.
The green light is on, the hard drive runs, the CD is activated, the battery and wifi indicators are OK, but nothing appears on the screen.

One day ago, it began booting “by chance” and then worked perfectly normally.

I tried with and without the battery.

I did nothing before, no recent hardware or software change.

Any idea?

No, it is used stand alone

After thinking more about your (very relevant) question, I thought about a problem with the internal monitor indeed.
Mechanics & electics appear to be less reliable than solid state things, and I went to suspect something about the screen. I actually found a way to restart the computer by bending the screen in the lower right corner near the on/off button.

Now the problem seem to be how to check and possibly fix a connexion problem with the screen?

After further tries I am no longer sure it is the actual issue. Coincidence seems the actual link between the succesful start and the screen bent.
So the issue is still: the laptop does not start, the screen stays black, though it sometimes - less and less often - starts and then works normally.

if you have multiple RAM modules, try removing one, and do this in either combination.
with my laptop i had the same problem, and after removing one ram module, the laptop worked again

I already tried to remove the RAM modules, though I did not swap the modules. I’ll try if the problem come up again.

I think I found the problem.
I recently changed the original 40 Gb HD by a big one, the MK1214GAH of 120GB.
By the way, it is fantastic, faster than the original one and big enough for today’s use. My TR2MP is now 5 years old and still does its job perfectly.

The problem seems that the new disk has a different connector (ZIF instead of CIF), so I had to tinker a little bit to fit the stuff in. I checked carefully the assembly, add some more sticky tape to avoid any elecgtrical shorts or connector release…
