To prepare for my SSD HD, I would like to buy 1.8 inch external HD case with USB to house my 1.8 inch Original HD.

Anyone know where to buy one and how much?

This one needs power supply.  I heard that there is case that dont need power as the power is drawn from USB.  I would prefer that one as that is truly portable, just the HD.

The Bytecc enclosure does have an external 5v power supply connector.

That said, read the specifications on Newegg’s page.  The unit will draw power from the USB port, provided the disk doesn’t exceed 5v @ 1amp.

It’s likely that the USB cable has two connectors for the PC, as the USB specification provides only 500 milliamps (.5 amp) from the port.

I have several 2.5” USB enclosures that draw their power from one or two USB ports (depending on the requirements to spin up the drive).  All have a 5v power supply connector.

Does the Toshiba MK that come with the TR draw power exceeding 5 V @ 1 A ?

I doubt it.  None of my 2.5” notebook drives draw more than 1amp.

Check the label on the back of the drive or on the specs sheet at Toshiba’s website.

The greatest draw is when the drive is spinning up.  Seeking/reading/writing all draw very little current.

I am waiting for SSD to drop to $100 before I upgrade as right now SSD is $500, too much.  Do you think by the time it hits $100, this case is still available?  I used to have Bytec external HD case, cheap, but sucks and broken, so I am worry about this brand.
