My mainboard in my TR5MP is doing strange things.

After running for a while, about 15 min, the firewire port and the pcmcia-port stop working. After a reboot the bios tells me there is a “resurce conflict” on the pci-bus. When having the TR switched of for a while to let it cool down, the conflict is gone. Inserting a pcmcia card (not a pcmcia card reader,b.t.w.) causes the problem to appear imedeately.

The problem exists since I have the notebook returend after a waranty mainboard exchang. Sony offered to replace it but as it was in cold wintertimes the problem did not appear for a while. Nowadays it comes with every use of the notebook.

So, if anyone knows what to do any help is more than welcome.

I have a TR2mp mainboard with exactly the same problem here and have ruled out all the peripherals including the PCMCIA slot unit (it’s seperate to the mainboard on a ribbon membrane). glad someone else has this… not glad you’ve got the problem but just happy to find it’s not an isolated issue..

It still works ok but no firewire or PCMCIA, and it’s winges about finding new hardware… which is not a major issue was planning on using it as a Vag-com only laptop (used for car diagnosis so would on be on and used generally for short periods).

If I get time I’ll look into it again maybe try cooling parts of the mainboard down once hot and the issue shows to see which area it is happening / getting hot

this is so cool I am not alone with my conflicts.

I took the TR apart and was looking if I could see some physical
damage somewhere. My TR was fitted with a new board and DVD-writer
from sony right before I bought it used from ebay. The error occoured
just once and I spoke to the sony technican who fixed it. He offered me to
have a second look on the TR an asked me to send it again to him. Sadly I did not send it because of cold weather conditions the error not occuring.

After a while I had the error more often, but then the repair waranty was gone :-(

As you have exactly the same error, I think it might be possible to have a bad connection between the mainboard and the pcmcia-board. Last time the TTr was open I got stuck on a little screw I was not able to open close to the pcmcia board. I get a screwdriver the next days and try again.

Do you think it is a heat-issu?

Well it only happens to mine when it’s been on for 30 mins or so and is warm / hot, also I have tried the mainboard naked nothing connected except hdd and screen no DVD, PCMCIA slot or other stuff and it still does it, maybe a chip or component going faulty when hot. if / when I get time I’ll get it out and try more in-depth analysis.

just had a look and I’ve even marked it up as PCMCIA fault so I knew which it was…
