In assisting a few people recently I said I’d post a tools used topic.

This is just what I use mostly, but you don’t have to have them all or the exact type.

Images are 2 x Philips, thin red one is a finer sharp point useful for some of the internal screws. Green picks are the two most useful shaped ones:- These are all from the current Snap-on catalogue, product numbers can be seen in image 2 (image is a link)

The boxed set is a budget jewellers screwdriver set, many places sell these and Draper make a set. This is the most cost effective tooling, containing what you need. These sets do vary however so make sure they have a few medium / small Philips if you buy a set. The smallest flat blade missing from the pictured set I keep with TR because it’s ideal for DVD drive manual opening via small hole in front..

That’s a whole lot of screwdrivers.  For all the computer work I do, I use a Victorinox Swiss Army CyberTool 41… very handy.

It’s by no means a must have list, as said the Snap-on items are additional i only mention them because I have them and use them mostly.

I also have a Victorinox (my aunt who lives in Switzerland gave it to me for a birthday), very useful keep it in the car, if you are working on many different laptops it would be great to have, but it’s clumsy for undoing small screws.

For TR series work you only really need the blue set, and they are sub $10 here’s a more comprehensive set for UK £4.15..

A sub $10 jewellers set is all you really need, the Snap-on stuff just makes it easier.. nicer to use is all

It also goes without saying you should ensure you are statically discharged before working on any electronic device! Realistically I’m yet to kill anything with static after years of working on things electronic…. but don’t say you weren’t warned!!
