Howdy - I’m keen to use the 30mb Hitachi hard drive that came out of my TR1 in a “normal” PC on an IDE cable. Is this possible? I wasn’t entirely sure.

You would need an adapter the adapts a 2.5 hard drive to a 3.5 hard drive like this:

The Hitachi connects the same as a standard 2.5 hard drive.

The TRs use a 1.8” hard drive, not 2.5”

As I said, it has the same connection as the 2.5. The mounting brackets won’t work the same, but it will connect to a IDE cble.

or if you want you can buy a 1,8” external usb enclosure which sell for $20 or less that will not only let you use your hdd on a regular computer but also have a fancy micro portable hdd

Many thanks for the response - as it happens, I do have one of those connectors and it does fit quite nicely. The only thing is that connecting it leaves eight adjacent pins in another little mini-connector at the end just hanging around with nothing to connect to, so I assumed this wouldn’t work.

please help me! my hdd has died, and i have to buy another one, but the hitachis(ide) are hard to find or too expensive, and i want one of 60gigs or more.
