So i finally bit the bullet and bought the ebay OEM extended battery for the TR.
I know that there are a couple different power sellers that are selling essentially the same thing but i bought mine from power_america and i would highly recommend. I bid/purchased via paypal on Wednesday morning and got it that Saturday. Needless to say, i was impressed by that transaction alone.
The battery is advertised as new but i thought it was a bit strange that it came in a brown box between two pieces of foam. Battery had no plastic on it or anything like that. As if it was a refurb…which it probably is.
At any rate, install wasn’t that big of a deal, but it doesn’t seem to be a *perfect* fit. There’s definitely a seam at the point in which the battery meets the body of the laptop. I would love to hear from people who bought the Sony branded 6600 battery to see if they have the same issue. Seems to be sturdy though…no shaking or looseness there. It also takes a little bit of work to get it out when swapping as well. It’s almost as if the dimensions were a mm off.
Plugs in fine and recharges fine. My laptop didn’t explode. PowerPanel reports Full Charge Capacity/Design Capacity at 73.21Wh. Charge Cycles is reported as “0”.
Good enough for me. Its reporting about six hours of remaining capacity after a full charge…..that plus my old battery (which currently does about 3.5) is enough to get me through the entire day. Now if only there was a docking station i could through these batteries into, i’d be a happy boy.
Bottom line: Save yourself about 200 dollars and buy the generic from ebay. I was worried about buying non-sony parts b/c of warranty, etc…but at this point, i doubt any of us have an active warranty anyways. Also, as i suspected, most of that is probably bunk to get you to pay 3 times the price you would normally pay for something anyways.
