I have opened severall batteries already (Ãn order to change the cells) and I can tell that in all cases it wasnt possible to open them without leaving that kind of damage. When I tried to open the bp2t (TR batterie) I even broke the lower batterie casing so that I couldnt use it anymore. Renewing the cells is ok as long the batterie pack is hidden insige the laptop. In our case…
Renewing cells can save you a lot of money. But why did you do it at all? A brand new bp3t on ebay costs around 65 Dollars these days.
I did expect to have some blemishes and as I had said before, I really doesn’t matter to me since I will be painting my laptop. I agree with you that if this had been a battery that is more hidden inside, it wouldn’t be an issue.
I did it because as I had said earlier, they claim “20 to 40% longer battery life in one single charge compared to an original manufactured battery†so buying an Ebay battery would have provided nothing more than a replacement. I also wanted to be the “test guinea pig” and contribute something to this forum to see if replacing the cells vs. buying a new battery had any real benefits.
Finally, I would have been more understanding if I had received any kind of response from this company at least confirming my concerns or trying to acknowledge the problem I felt there was. I didn’t get any responses from any of the people I contacted. That honestly is the majority of the reason I will never use their service.
I rebuilt a battery for an SRX series laptop a while. One was it only cost me $30 for six cells from Tenergy. The other reason is Li-Ion batteries start to age as soon as they’re manufactured… so even if I bought a “new” battery it would already have deteriorated since I was dealing with a ca. 2002 laptop.
Ok. Got you. I also hate it when someone refuses to respond. However… I just finished painting my TR. If youre interested I could send you some pictures. I choose silver mettalic and it looks really brilliant. No webspace to upload though.
So… seems like Im the first one here having a REAL silver TR.
Ive sent you two more emails with pics. Forgot to attach pics onto the first mail. Hence the second mail. Thank you for hosting the files Hope the whole community enjoys Cant make better pictues right now because the good Kodak digicam died. The cheap one I have right now cant do better.
Mr. B and silyb0y, thanks for the pictures and input! Those are great motivators for my project as well. If you can, place the rest of these posts under that topic so we can keep this thread about batteries
Now the battery is starting to come apart. I am sure it is from the heat of the battery, but this is highly unacceptable. I will probably fix myself, but before I do, I am contacting the company.
The safety circuit board might be usable but you obviously have bad cells there. Are there pictures avaliable of the insice of the TR battery casing? If we know where the locking tabs are we should be able to crack them open with less damage.
Yea, it looks bad huh. The battery still works great, but the looks of it is not good. I sent another threatening email to the company, telling them I will file a complaint with the BBB and other consumer protection agencies if I don’t get some kind of assistance with this.
Ian replied and has been very responsive so far. As of Friday, they shipped me another battery free of charge. I made sure to explain that it HAS to be an OEM 6600mah battery, not aftermarket. I will be sure to let you all know what it is when I get it.
Depending on how things go Mr. B, I might open the mangled battery and let everyone see the inside and how everything is attached and constructed. For now though, I will leave the battery intact.
At least they sent you a new one Samurai. However Mr.B. I dont know about the prices of LiIon cells where you live but I made my own calculation. If I bought the panasonic cells at regular end user price (and they are really hard to find) it wouldnt be woth the repair. For that price you could get an aftermarket battery. I opened my bp2t when they offered the cells for cheap money on ebay but I happened to ruin the case
If I remember correctly the two case parts are clued to each other that makes it really hard to crack open them. Still I would love to see pictures of the bp3t by chance.
