Hey guys. This is gonna sound a bit “iphone boring”, but how on Gods green earth do you intsall additional memory on a TX. I have a sony vaio TX750P/B and i think it only came with 512MB RAM. I opened the memory port on the bottom of the laptop but it only has one slot (unlike the TR which had two 512mb slots)and it is already occupied with the factory installed 512mb. Even if i wanted to max out the ram at 1.5GB, would i have to open up the laptop?? Hope not, first a broken screen and now this. Might as well use it as a frisbee… But before i do,  Any help from any of the Gazillion TX owners would do. Cheers.

If the memory slot is occupied, it means you have 1GB of memory (512MB soldered on motherboard and 512MB in the memory slot). To go 1.5GB you have to replace the 512MB by a 1GB module.
What happened to your screen?

Hey. Thanks a million for the reply. I had no idea that 512 was soldered on the motherboard. The srx series had its memory that way (but it was only expandible to 384MB).

Regarding the screen: One day i opened the laptop up and to my utter disbelief, i had tiny cracks running up from both lower bottom corners. Im guessing someone put something heavy on it because im usually very particular about my stuff. Anyway, i found a screen online and made a deal with the guy that if he was to take my old screen, he would give me a discount of the new one. So im just waiting for that to come. I think the New TZ series has the same led backlit screen. Im sure that series will have the same problems as the TX.

I bought a used TX790P last November and one day, I just closed it normally, opened it up and the left half of the screen was all cracked and almost the whole screen is unusuable! What a shock, it just happened out of nowhere! I just opened and closed it as always!

Yes, your model has 512 megs soldered on, you can’t do anything about that and there’s a free slot where you can add another 512 or 1 gig ram stick or maybe even more. Sony officially says it can support up to 1.5 gigs of ram.

Rahul, I think you and i faced the same issue with our TX’s. Id like the TX screen to be as sturdy as the TR. I know its does not have the LED screen and uses up more power than the TX, but if i was to wish for the ultimate form, function and durability, there arent any laptops out there (in my humble opinion) that compare with the TR.

Hey Rahul, if im not mistaken you got your TX series for less than $500 correct. Man, what a steal.. Its almost good enough to call ‘day light robbery’. But i see that youre moving to bigger and better things now that you have ordered the TZ series. Hope that works out great for you. Im gonna wait until they introduce it states side and hopefully by then theyll make it quadcore. 

I appreciate the replies above guys. One more quick question. Does the manufacturer/company of the RAM really make a difference or can i just buy RAM from any company and install it. Ive looked at a few auctions on ebay and some are expensive where others are dirt cheap, which sometimes is good (when the seller doesnt know what they are selling is really worth) but other times it makes one think..if its too good to be true, there must be something wrong with the product. Pardon my Neurotic outlook on things.. but ive been burned more than once. 

No the manufacturer does not make much difference, I installed a Corsair value module in mine and everything’s fine. Going from 1GB to 1.5GB did not make much difference btw (I’m on XP).
I had a concern that original memory (2x512MB) would be addressed through dual-channl and 512MB+1GB would not but apparently even original config is not dual-channel anyway.
