Has anyone installed Vista RTM on a VGN-T350? I tried a pre-RC1 build a while back and a lot of stuff wasn’t working properly. Is it better now? What works and what doesn’t? Thanks! I won’t get my academic version of Vista till April though…

I have been pondering installing the RTM build as well but I think our T350 only 64Mb video memory available (even thought it has 1Gb of RAM installed) so no aero for us :(

I just got my free copy of Vista Ultimate from Microsoft, and am presently installing it on my T350. I know for a fact Aero won’t work. I have seen guide on how to get all the hardware to work fro other similar models, and am hoping with just a little modification they will apply to the T350 as well. I’ll post back with my results.
I do know that RC-2 ran quite nicely.

How much would having aero enabled affect the battery though? I know that the T-series under XP has fantastic battery life and I think that enabling Aero might kill that aspect of the machine…

@jblack:
Would love to the read your experience with installing it on the T350. Please do keep us posted.
@radicaldreamer99:
Since areo won’t be enabled, it should be ok. One thing I am concerned with is Vista being a resource hog and killing my battery with other stuff such as hard disk usage and fan control.

Sony has just added a bunch of updates for it’s utilities under OS Migration for the T350. I’m downloading them right now and will report back as to what works and what doesn’t.

I’m not sure what those updates were supposed to fix, but my hotkeys still don’t work, and SmartWi Utility doesn’t either. The updates did add a practically useless Lan Settings Utility. Sony software sucks!

Vista runs fine on my T350p. Been running it since RC-1, now with my free copy of RTM from Microsoft. All the little Sony things work fine, hotkeys, etc. I have been using the available drivers for the newer TX-laptops for quite some time, haven’t tried the newly released specific versions for the T350…
Smart-Wi works, it just shows a Sprint logo for the EDGE modem instead of a Cingular logo, lol.

Oh wow! Which drivers specifically did you install? I’ve been trying to get my hotkeys working for ages!

I orignally used a lot of the drivers for the TX off the VaioLink website, but now Sony has posted them for the T350 on their US site. I need to reinstall soon, so I will go that route this time.
As far as SmartWi, I have some REALLY good news about that. Sony released a Vista-compatible SmartWi for the UX180P, which has a Cingular EDGE modem just like the T350P. You have to change the model.txt file in the Windows directory to get it to install, but once you do, it works PEREFECTLY. And is has the Cingular logo instead of Sprint.

Cool…specifically, I’m wondering if your fn-F5 and fn-F6 (brightness hotkeys) work correctly in Vista. I tried everything but I can’t get those to work. I ended up going back to SP2.

there must have been something totally messed up… because i installed and reinstalled the notebook control driver with no luck… I never got the volume or brightness keys working. I didn’t clean install Vista though, I upgraded my XP installation.

Just to update a bit: I’ve pretty much given up on Vista at the moment. I did a clean install of Windows XP Home from my backup cd and instlaled Ubuntu Feisty Fawn. After a little bit of work, it works with all the major components of my T350.

Upon recentely having to reinstall Vista on my T350, I also found myself unable to get my hotkeys to work. That is, until I installed the version for XP. Give it a shot, works for me.
