The TR series uses a MiniPCI wireless card right? Can you swap the 802.11b card out and replace it with a 802.11b/g card? I found this on newegg:

Yes, that card will work. The main thing to check on the card is to see if it’s Type IIIB. The specs indicate that it is so you should be good. You can refer to my wireless upgrade review if you want the general idea of how to install it.

For older TR owners who need faster than 802.11b and didn’t want to use the Netegriti 802.11a/b/g card and want to stick with Intel then this is the upgrade that you want. It essentially turns your TR1A/TR2A into a TR3A.

have one quick question.  is the Netegriti a/b/g card the one Sony use for their JDM TR?  i want to convert my future-to-have TR to a JDM spec…  i have look at the bluetooth thread and all i can say is wow… can’t wait til groovyone finish his project :p

It’s already scheduled for two more upgrades at this point (I ordered both the DVD-RW and the out-of-stock BT module). The thing about this upgrade is that I only have a 802.11b router at the moment. It’s just one big fucking snowball. :?

If your gonna take your tr apart, mine as well do it all at once :D. I imagine its a PITA to get in there.

That’s my plan, but I can’t decide on whether to get the Netegriti or the Intel.  I guess the 11a capability would be nice if I ever needed it.  Eventually I will upgrade my network to 11g, but for now, my 11b is fine.  Who knows?  Just upgrading for the sake of upgrading.  :o

I’d really like to do this for my TR1MP, even though the two main wireless networks (at home and at work) i connect to are both B, it would be a nice thing to have when out and about.. would really like to get the Netegriti for the main reason that i have experienced similar problems to gr00vy0ne when coming back from hibernation with the current card, and i fear a new intel one would be the same, while the Netegriti one is apparently fine. Also the Netegriti software looks good, and the A support may come in handy..

Now if only someone sold it in the UK, the shipping + customs costs look like they could be expensive buying from discount technology!  :cry:

EDIT - Mind you having said that, i’ve just found a place i can have one of the intel ones from for £41.63 delivered tomorrow… hmmm.
