Sony UX, Rear antenna for WWAN or WLAN?

I’ve looked up a couple of places, and none let me know what the rear Antenna helped.  Is it for the WWAN/Cingular Service, or is it for Wireless Lan, or is it both?

I’m pretty sure it’s for the WWAN because the original UX which didn’t have WWAN didn’t have the antenna either.
