Well i think i will go for the TZ series when it is released instead of the C series. I actually saw a TX series laptop in the shops and it was sweet.
Reading the specs and sizes online is so different from seeing the actual laptop in stores.

If the specs are as stated in the links provided by Rahul, the question i have to ask is why only a 1.06Ghz core 2 duo processor?
Also why only a 0.3 mp camera?

I have recently read reviews for the TX series and people have complained that vista slows down certain applications.
Do Sony by any chance sell the TXN27 with XP Home or Professional?
Or is the only option installing it yourself?

I’m afraid the latest TXs are preloaded only with Vista and the only way to install XP is yourself. You’ll have to use drivers from older TXs, eg, TX3 series, in Europe, your newest Vista TXs are called the TX5s, there was never a TX4 oddly.
There is a thread on notebookreview.com forums in the Sony section on how to install XP on the new Vista TXs. I have read many complaints of Vista being slow on the TXs, due to the 4200 rpm hard drive and Core Solo processor.

I agree that a 0.3 mp camera is lacking but its competitors the 11.1” WXGA Asus U1F and 10.6” WXGA Fujitsu Lifebook P7120 also have the exact same .03 mp web camera. Its best probably then to get an external camera anyhow thats more flexible and whatnot.

Besides, I don’t like the fact that the cameras are mounted on the top and can’t be turned around to face the back unlike some other notebooks with built in webcams.

I just found out that 4 is an unlucky number in Japan.

Maybe Sony need a board meeting to assess why the Tr was so good,..... seems most of what made the Tr series so special, and extremely popular even with a pretty substantial price tag, is missing or sadly lacking from the newer models including the style.

I also dislike all black notebooks, especially black keyboards, unless you must have vista (I’m avoiding it like the plague for at least a year), then there is plenty of life in well looked after Tr’s, and there are plenty being parted out to keep one running for many years while XP remains the mainstay o/s for those that aren’t upgrade obsessed   8)

I am planning to sell my TR3A once i have decided which new laptop to purchase. I would like another compact one and the closest one is the TX series. But having briefly used Vista in my friends new laptop i didnt really like it. Though i am sure oevrtime i will get use to it. Installing XP myself will take too much effort and then having to find all the drivers. If i can find a disc with all the drivers i may give it a go.

Oh in regards to the camera i was just askign out of curiousity. Someone told me that cos it is meant as a webcam that is why it is only 0.3MP. If it was like 2MP then the stream time would take longer. Well i was told something like that. I don’t even use my camera on my TR apart from when i have to take pics of stuff i am gonna sell on ebay. I did use it a lot when i first got it. I have had my TR for 3 years now and the camera still works.

Apparently it can support a 2.5” hard drive AND a 1.8” SSD drive!?  :shock:  :shock:  :shock:

You have to take out the optical drive to put in the SSD drive and it’ll be available apparently with three sorts of batteries, standard, extended and super extended with the Core 2 Duo version getting up to 18 hours of battery life with the biggest battery and the Celeron version getting 13 hours.

They maybe took “MrBishi’s idea”  replacing TR’s optical drive with 2.5” HDD

I think its really nice you have the option to remove the drive when you do not need it and put in a 2.5” hard drive, like the modular bay in the Fujitsu Lifebook P series.

I wish there was a way to put in another battery in that slot or a weight saver to get even more battery life or save more weight.

I was wondering, do you think maybe the processor could be upgraded later so I could buy the cheapest Celeron TZ and then upgrade it later on? I don’t think its possible but that would be very nice. Thanks!

I’d like to maybe import it when it comes out on the 26th in Japan.

Actually, if you guys go to the Official Japanese SonyStyle website, the TZ is compared to be the evolution of the 505 series, not the TR/Picturebook.
