My Hitachi HDD died and killed the 1st IDE too.  :evil:  :evil:
:idea: So I’m thinking here. The PCGA-HDM06 is an external i-link hdd for Vaio laptops.
Anyone have this enclosure? The TR3 can boot from a i-link device????  :?:

Tried to fix the ide?

When my CD burner died it killed the IDE as well. It actually was my mistake… I tried to removed the DVD burner and forgot to remove the battery first… short cirucit… IDE dead.

I fixed my IDE by just resoldering the soldering spots from the SMD chip that is responsible for the affected IDE channel.

I don’t think booting from i-link or USB is possible. When my hdd died, I was looking at booting from USB as an option but it wasn’t possible because those bas**** sony just want to make money and never bothered adding a simple (I guess) functionality to our laptop’s.

My TR’s Toshiba HDD died and it took out the ide channel with it as well!?!?!?

What the hell is happening here for both to fail???
I don’t understand the failure mechanism of this.

Have been booting Ubuntu from CD. But would love to do it from a usb key.

So is it just impossible to boot from anything external apart from the Sony Floppy Drive???????
