I saw the exchange rate and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to buy some Japanese tech. Since I sold all my subnotebooks recently and am lugging around a 2.3kg brick of a powerbook I thought i’d go for something l;ight and small, and cheap. So I picked up a Vaio PCG-U3. These are the best value and bang for the buck IMHO at the moment. approx $700AU and you get 820grams, 30GB HDD, 512MB Ram, Windows XP, tiny form factor.
My one is coming with a perfect standard battery, an extra large capacity battery (good for 7 hours of real use), USB 2.0 pcmcia card, 54mbps wireless card and some other bits and pieces.
I would like to hear both of your ideas regarding the U. I have a U1, and I find it a bit sluggish. I was wondering if its only my unit, as I had a C1VRX/K before too, and I feel that was faster. Of course I just love the thing, its so tiny.
How long it takes for you to boot the U3 to XP?
Are there any sites/softwares around I can measure the performance somehow?
hi i now have my u3, its really pretty sluggish though, it cant even play a dvd well with the ddrw2 ilink dvd drive. luckily though i also bought a u101 for $650 with extended battery and ddrw2!! i’m still waiting on that though, it hasnt arrived yet
Yepp, I also have the same with the U1, it cannot play vids, etc. With Linux and some tweaking (interlaced mode, etc) I was able to play divx-es finally.
Please when you get your U101, do a comparison regarding performance, and let me know, as I might just pick one up if its good.
Could you also take a picture with the two unit besides eachother?
