I did some searching around here and on the Internet. I am trying to find out if there are other brand / model drives that fit the TR2A with a larger RPM?
I am fine with a 40GB drive, but really desire a higher RPM as the standard 4500RPM is not enough for me. I bought this laptop, very excited to install my previously used 60GB 7200RPM 2.5” drive in for that instant extra boost, only to be disappointed in having to use a 1.8”.
5,400RPM would be nice, but 7200RPM would be a dream. Any help is appreciated!
Sadly, you are correct. I guess I am forever stuck in the 4200RPM world. I will probably only swap out my hard drive when it does dead then since there is no real incentive to change it out.
Capacity is not an issue, especially since I am using a 500GB SATA external drive
Yes, a good question and one I would like to know. I did a VERY quick search and noticed they have a size of 16GB. I would be happy if they could reach 30GB with their speeds and if they worked in the TR2s, I would buy one.
That is exactly right. The clicking sound is because of moving parts. With the Samsung drive, it is 100% flash, which means no moving parts so no sound
Well, I hear that currently, you cannot buy these drives just yet, you can only get them by buying a notebook with them and the 32 gig SSD is about $500 right now?
But the good news is that prices are and will drop RAPIDLY, VERY RAPIDLY. :D
But would these work in a TR by the way? What about 2.5” SSDs?
You are right, they aren’t easily available if at all and definitely expensive. But just like the flash drives, as you said, they will come down in price. If my hard drive can hold out until then, I will get one.
As far as fitting, I am not sure either. Hopefully someone will try or maybe I will if I get the chance.
I got all excited about these flashdrives when I read the thread here. I thought, these would never fit in our TRs anyway, so I didn’t bother at first.
But some research on Samsung’s site revealed, that they were smart and chose the same form factors as existing 1.8” and 2.5” drives, so the transition would be as easy as possible.
The 1.8” 32GB version has the same measurements as our existing drives and even has the same 50 pin ATA connector. They will switch to S-ATA in the near future, but I hope they will keep the ATA versions for us
The 32GB version is available on Amazon ,
and the description states that the disk can be used internaly without the case.
Only downside now is the price, but I guess that will change with increasing demand
Good find Chokran! But, I am going to wait for now. One of two things will happen. One, the price will come down or two, my drive will die and I will buy one of these.
