I’ve got a TR3A. The HDD started making noises last Saturday. It seemed that the HDD has trouble reading. I was watching a video which got jerky and eventually stopped playing. I tried rebooting a few times which sometimes succeeded and at other times failed when the BIOS could not find the OS.

I tried turning the laptop on again yesterday to check from the BIOS which manufacturers HDD I had. To my surprise the laptop does not even show me the boot screen any more! The DVD drive still spins disks if you put one in etc.

So my questions, to everyone who’ve experienced an HDD failure on the TR, is is this typical or has something else broken in my TR besides the HDD?

Hmm…Sounds like its most likely the hdd, but, it could be the mobo…which is what happened to mine (after sitting unused for 2 months mind you!!). If you determine that its the hdd and want to get rid of it..let me know! thanks!

yup. my hdd died recently. same symptoms as yours. i also hav the TR3A. does it say disk read error? if it does, its definitely the hdd.

i was able to replace mine with a new 60GB toshiba hdd. its really easy to replace. they hav all kinds of help on this site.

after i replace the hdd and reinstalled everything. the laptop is working again! i guess after 4 yrs, the hdd just gave up on meD
