No offense but I’m surprised it runs faster, all I keep hearing is that Vista is more bloated, more of a resource and memory hog and runs slower than Xp. Haven’t tried it myself yet though so far.

The reason it seems faster in most cases, IMO, is that it’s usually a fresh install. If they would have installed a fresh XP it would have seemed faster.
That being said, my desktop Vista system is much faster booting then it was during XP, even a clean install.
Once you get the quirks of Vista down, I’ve found that you’re more productive. Of course, sometimes you spend 30 minutes looking for something that you would know where it would be in 4 seconds on XP…
Here’s my experience of installing Vista on my TR3.
Install went okay. I was able to get my Atheros wi-fi card driver installed. I tried installing the sound driver from the link above. At first it wouldn’t work. But, I reinstalled by right clicking on the exe file and going to the second tab and told it to run app as WinXP. This time it worked great. Next was the bluetooth switch, to turn bluetooth and wi-fi on and off. I installed the same way, by running it as XP. The only problem is that Vista won’t allow it to start-up on booting. It asks you for permission each time. Kinda annoying, still haven’t found a way to allow automatic start up.
I still have 3 “Unknown Devices” in Device Manager that give no clue as to what they are so I can’t install drivers.
I have tried to install a few of Sony’s XP drivers, but can’t find out if they work after install, because I am not sure how to check some of them.
The major problem I am having is that the TR won’t restart, it shuts down to a blank screen, but the power, bluetooth, and wi-fi lights are lit up. Also, the battery charge light flashes slowly. So, I have to hold the power button until it shuts off. Then restart it. I am tempted to re-install Vista but don’t want to run into the same problem.
Any one else experience any of these problems and possibly corrected them?
I had installed Vista Ultimate-K(Korean) on my TR5B(TR5B is japanese Model), but I reinstall XP.
After install only Vista, TR also had 3 “Unknown Devices”.
Except Sound & Motion-eye & Hotkey, All of System was Ok!
After I did Windows Update, Two Unknown Devices was disappeared.
I think Last one Unknown Devices is Motion-Eye..
I couldn’t find Motion-Eye driver for Vista…..
I updated another Sound Driver , it was working…
My TR5 with Vista has some troblems…
1, Hotkey utilities & Sony Notebook Manager does not working….
2, Sound has some noise and cracks when Vista is starting or swapping..
3, TR can’t running aero glad, GPU is very poor…
4, I don’t buy Vista…..
cause motion eye was dead, I did not Test Smart Capture…...
Now, My TR is running with XP & Vista Theme…............
I went back to XP also. My HP printer is on my network and I use it wireless. The HP install disk would not install. Even under “run app as” WinXP.
So, no printer, no Vista.
Hopefully HP will have a solution soon.
Okay, I installed Vista again, this time I had much better results. I loaded all of Sony’s drivers as “XP compatable” and with administrator rights. My hotkeys work including the volume keys on the right side of the screen. The wireless switch installed and it now starts up with the computer.
And lastly, I couldn’t load the software from HP, so I can’t use all of the features of my AIO printer, however, if a just “add a printer”, Vista has the drivers needed, and the install goes smoothly without an HP cd disk needed.
I will not be installing Vista on any of my computers or any MS OS after XP again. Granted, if you area tech like myself, you can shut these annoyances off or terminate them somehow. But even that can cause alarm to Microsoft as you will read below. Anyway, I guess I could go on quite awhile about this topic, but have decided to stay with XP as a necessary means to work with others, but needed a final push to make me move over to SuSE linux for good. I will be making my TR2A dual boot this weekend.
If don’t know this already from reading the EULA, here are some things to consider:
* If turned on, Windows Defender will search your computer for “spyware,†“adware†and other potentially unwanted software. If it finds potentially unwanted software, the software will ask you if you want to ignore, disable (quarantine) or remove it.
