Hello folks,
I just opened my T2XP to doublecheck HDD type for possible upgrade (see other post). I think disassembly is fairly similar on several of the Sony models, so here is how I did it:
1. Unscrew all screws at bottom
2. With screws removed, keyboard is now loose, but still locked with two small locking pins just behind keys F5 and NumLk. Use a small screwdriver to push in the locking pins, and then carefully lift up keyboard, rear end first. When rear end is up, front end will come loose!
3. Keyboard ribbon cable can be slided out easily by first opening the locking handle on the connector on the motherboard. (small plastic thing). Now keyboard is completely free, remove it (and clean it… )
4. Remove 2 (or is it 3?) screws under the keyboard
5. Remove the two small caps covering the outside end of each monitor hinge. Right cap (the one with power button) can be lifted off since securing screw was removed in step 1. Left cap must be slided to left, use some force so it pops off (no screws, only plastic locking latches)
6. Under the left hinge cap you just removed, unscrew one more screw!
(yeah, took some time to figure out how to remove cap to get this screw removed…)
7. Start lifting up top cover (cover where keyboard was attached). It is locked with plastic locking latches in front, but is fairly easy to disconnect by pushing in on lower end and then carefully pulling up on top cover. But dont lift high, you still have cables connected…
8. Disconnect cables which is attached to top cover. On my T2XP it was 4 ribbon cables, all easily disconnected by lifting up from mating connector on motherboard (also reconnect is easy, no fear…)
9. Now top cover should be free, remove it.
10. You should now have easily access to HDD, wireless mini-PCI card and RAM. (NOTE: If you only want to upgrade RAM, you only need to lift up keyboard, step 1 and 2)
Assembly: Do everything in reverse order. And if you still have screws left when assembly is completed, you’re screwed…
have fun,
