I have installed Vista Beta and am having a few issues with things such as sound and screen brightness. Sound does not work what so ever, nor does adjusting of the brightness. I have installed the sony softwares but nothing seems to fix these issues. Also one strange thing happened one of the packages installed uwould not recognize my battery anymore, and said that I needed to install a genuine Sony battery. I only have 1 battery and it is the one that came from the factory so I’m not sure what to do about that. I did uninstall until it no longer said that, but I cant for the life of me remember which package it was that was causing that problem. Any help with the sound and brightness would be greatly appreciated.

This gets me a control of the screen brightness and a few other features but no sound control.

it was a struggle.  my model is Tr3ap3, installed software from Rahul’s website

4) but i couldn’t get webcam work.  device is shown in dev manager,
however, it does not work at all.

5)i couldn’t get screen zoom work, that is a minor issue.

Thanks for posting this info, as i have a TR3A also and was wondering on the hardware support.

Screen zoom—you lose that on xp as well, as soon as you ditch the sony supplied display drivers and upgrade to the latest intel builds. So getting that going on Vista is very unlikely…

Since the the camera is a standard usb device, i’m sure it would be possible to get it working with some coaxing—maybe rewarpping the sony driver binary in a vista friendly installer package.  This has worked for me before to get NT4 style scsi drivers to install under XP—and the hardware worked reliably afterwards too, btw.

I’m waiting to buy a retail copy of Vista before upgrading. Will post a repackaged driver here if i go that route.

As has been said mostly.. the sounds can be gotten working with the xp driver, as can the camera (but then as i never use it, i just installed the driver to keep the pc happy… i have no idea if it functions properly!)

The biggest problem i have is with the sleep mode or on a shutdown. Sleep mode and the pc reboots as if there has been a failure, and in shutdown, i get a bluescreen just before it shutsdown (which takes forever!), and then it reboots again anyway! Stupid thing! I liked the useability of just hitting Fn+F12 and having it hibernate on XP, but now the rigamarole of shutting down and restarting every time is getting on my nerves.

Other than that, its just a bit slow (which i expected….. but as standard, with the sidebar showing, it uses 78% of the 512mb ram!) and of course some apps aren’t designed to run on vista yet. but thats getting better.

Not bad considering its a Beta, but once i’ve satisfied my curiosity, i’ll be going back to XP to get some speed back! (or maybe going over to the dark side.. and use linux!  :twisted:  )

The GetVAIOInfo.exe program leads to the Sony Support Website that hasn’t been working for the past few days:

“Oops!

Thanks.  But the problem is that I have downloaded the GetVaioInfo.exe before.  When I run the program, it starts the internet browser and leads me to the error page.  Either Sony is working on the site, or something is wrong on their behalf.

Well, the Vista Migration program still doesn’t work.. but I’m not really concerned about that.  Thanks to this forum, I was able to get everything to work except for the function keys (brightness only works) as explained by the other posts.  Anyone found a workaround or are you all just waiting for Sony to release the drivers?  Thanks.
