So, my motion eye camera has abruptly stopped working.  I did the complete restore.

I reinstalled the VCC-U01 drivers so now the camera pops up in Device Manager but it has the Exclamation point ( ! )next to it.

I am not sure what to do now to activate the camera..  Can anyone help? :?:

There has been many problems with Sony notebooks with motion eye webcams, not just the TR series but just about all of the notebook models. 

Here’s my post from another tread.  I hope everyone passes this one to all sony notebook users with the motion eye camera.

“I have an optical engineer who did some research on the problem with my motion eye camera on my TR5AP notebooks. I have 2 of the TR5AP and both motion eye cameras went out on me last month and both were hardly ever used. The engineer said Sony had problems with their CCD array designs over 2+ years ago and even had a recall on their video camcorders. You guys can search the internet “sony ccd recall” and find several news announcements about the CCD array problem.  He said that all the motion eye cameras use CCD arrays and may have the same faulty design problems. Sony, of course never mentions this when you talk to support but if everyone here does some research on Sony CCD array, we may be able to get Sony to address this problem at their cost. I think we have to unite about this and pass this word to other forums. United We Stand…..

thanks for the reply.. i agree but we’d have to file a class action suit and we wont get any results either way for the next year at least.

until then i am desperately trying to figure out how to make this work without either having to 1. replace this camera or 2. sending it in

it very well may work, but i dont understand why it wont recognize it…

I seem to have the same problem on my TR2, let me know if anyone gets a solution or even if there is a way to order a new one to replace this one

well here’s my update.

i ordered the new part (the camera) from sparepartswarehouse i successfully removed casing switched the camera’s and then did the complete recovery disc’s..

guess what that did….

...

....

nothing.  it still didnt find the f*cking camera. so i downloaded the driver from sonystyle and all that did was put the camera in device manager with the (!) next to it. which basically means it cant find the camera.

so i switched the camera back to the original and im going to send this piece back. and decide whether or not to send it to sony or just sell the comptuer and buy a new one when vista comes out.

all in all, the TR2AP is a cool little computer but the camera actually ruins the computer because of its piece of crappyness and consistent failure.
