Hello All,
I am in the process of choosing which TX model I want and am at an impasse???
After finally deciding that the TX was the right fit for me I started looking at the different TXN models, colors and memory being the variables. After (much)^2 research and testing I came to the conclusion that the 2 Gig models TXN(17/19) running at DDR2 speeds are what I wanted hardware wise. The problem started when I looked at the colors and the prices.
I am having a hard time justifying spending an extra $500 to upgrade to the TXN17/19 when:
a. I can’t get it in the color I like, white (a.k.a Platnium)
b.1GB SODIMM stick is only $120.
The decision got even tougher when I went to best buy yesterday. They are having a sale on TXN15’s, $2050 reduced from $2299, now they don’t have it in the white but I can take the add over to fry’s and they will honor the sales price and I can get my white / platinum beauty for a great price, but… there is always a but, I can’t max the memory out to 2 gigs because the TXN 15 only have 512 onboard. I also hate the idea of giving up the DDR2 speeds at a max memory of 1.5Gigs
So…. My questions for the forum are, if I buy the white TXN 15 can I…
a. Is there any way to upgrade the memory that is on the motherboard? I have been told that the internal memory is hard soldered to the board. Is this the case or is it just not user accessible? Note: I am very comfortable tearing into laptops and have done so B4
b. If I was to pull the 512 stick, buy a 2gig SoDimm and put it in the empty slot would the Bios recognize the memory and max out at two Gigs or would it just freeze.
Note: I realize that this course would limit my machine to Single Data Rate.
Well, thanks in advance for the input, the sale ends this Saturday so I have three days to make up my mind????
Wish me luck
Thanks,
Fandarel
PS… If anybody can think of anything I should check at the store when I buy the unit I would really appreciate the info. Note: I already have a copy of “Dead Pixel Buddy†on a flash drive that I plan to check the display with.
