[quote author=“Mrs Gadget”]I don’t know if anyone can help?
My son has the Z1 set up for a school wireless network, with a school laptop name and school domain. HIs IP address is also completely different to ours.
While at home he can see our access point, but can’t see our computers. Can i set him up with our workgroup and domain and IP address range etc and still save his school settings?
Home setup = main pc attached to modem with Analogx as proxy.
Access point attached to main pc with lan cabling.
Part 2: If you have a broadband connection can you access it with your wireless laptop, just by plugging in an access point to the broadband plug?Or do you need a main pc?
I hope these questions make sense, I have tried networking newsgroups but no one has answered me yet.
One thing you can try is to put his school static IP address under an alternate configuration in Windows XP.
Go into Control Panel…Network Connections. Right click your lan connection and click properties. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the selection list and click Properties. In the General Tab, you can put your home networking information (or leave it as Obtain an Address Automatically (DHCP) if you have broadband and a router, which is the desired setup for home networks in answer to your part two question). Here is the trick for part one—click the Alternate Configuration tab in this dialog and put your son’s school info there. It is supposed to be able to figure out which network it’s on and use the appropriate settings.
Hope this helps.
