My TR’s camera went dead as well, what a nightmare. I even ordered one from Ebay, and believe it or not, it was a fake item. Beware of a seller from China selling this. He has good reviews but this was sure fake. I even started a claim with Paypal, and then I was asked to get a proof from a Sony dealership that the camera is fake. Yeah, right, the Hungarian SONY will know it. Well, there went my 80 USD, anyways, I am still out for a hunt to get mine back working.

My wife is currently in Japan now, so I could order almost anything, of course at a reasonable price, however, she is not finding this UVC11A camera anywhere. Is there another one I should buy which can be used, or what else can I do?

p.s. For reference, I will post the fake camera’s pictures, so none of you will get scammed such an ugly way.

Unfortunately .. We can’t replace the CMOS sensor with the new USB cam VGP-UVC100 ..
I bought one and found that it’s belt-on the board and we can’t take it off like the older cam ..  :(

Sorry to hear your troubles. I wonder what can we do now? My camera is also bad, but I wouldnt like to spend 100USD on a cam that needs to be replaced again within a year or less like it was mentioned in this thread earlier…

Anyways, I am unalbe to find the old camera on the web. They were discontinued?

I am still wondering for a replacement for the camera. I am so desparate, that I would even buy the bad replacement which will die as well, but I cannot locate that either anymore.

Is there any other alternative for upgrading the camera in the TR, or that old and bad UVC11A is the only option? If so, where can I find one?

awesome tutorial bushman! i just successfully replaced my deadcam! finally! its been dead for awhile then i read and followed ur thread. bought the parts(Part.nr A-8068-215-A) in sony(http//servicesales.sel.sony.com/). thanks again bushman!!!

Its 150USD? Pretty pricey, I would say.

Is it working perfectly? The only thing left now is to see for how long it will remian in working order. If it was forever, I would buy it in a heartbeat, as I still love the laptop.

This is how the cam looks like. First pic you can see what it appears to be when installed (through USB)

The second and third you see the actual camera and the board, which isnt what it should be.

Here is some of the Email correspondance I had with the seller, you decide if I was right or not. I never got the thing settled, as I needed proof from a Sony dealer that it was in fact a fake item

I basically sent him a message saying that it was fake, but he only responded that it was in fact made in Japan, and packed in China. You know making in Japan is cheap, so manufacturing happens in Japan, but packing is the expensive part, so they outsource it to China. Sounds real, doesnt it?

the camera on my tr5mp isnt working. its a black screen (occasionally white) holding a torch infront of the lens does not show even a faint signal. occasionally theres some horizontal lines for a second when moving the camera.
2 questions:

1 is this a loose connection or does the camera need changing?

2 if the camera needs changing does anyone know of a replacement for the afforementioned PCGA-UVC11A as this seems to no longer be available in the uk

Yes your camera needs replacement, this isnt a lose connection.

These cams are really hard to find nowadays, and I am not sure what to suggest to you. I am also looking for one.

Best would be to find another cam which would fit in its place, but that is a hard thing to do. As of now, all we know is that we need the exact replacement of the model, which is rare and expensive, and over all a piece of crap even if replaced. You may have another year or so with it.

in ebay, did the seller post the original picture or the fake picture? because by the picture posted here, it seems really fake. the “VAIO” print is too bold, and the original didnt eved had a print, it is embossed.

It was probably not shown. The camera did look really fake. I am using it now as a home webcam, as it works rather good, I was just unable to take the board from it.

I since purchased another one directly from Japan, my wife helped me with the translation and her parents with the transaction. I replaced the camera, and it was working right away, and since I have even sold my TR. Its sad being without it, but I wanted to upgrade, and got a macbook. Very similar, white and has a cam. Of course much bigger, but if I want something small, I have a Vaio U1.
