Hi guys,

I recently bought a TR5MP with an alleged “faulty keyboard”, on inspection I found that someone had broken off the brown tab that secures the keyboard ribbon cable to the connector on the motherboard. Can anyone tell me if the brown tab can be sourced, and the connector be repaired or is this a terminal problem. Many thanks in advance.

Was this recently on Ebay, I was eyeing that myself if it was the same one

I am assuming its the little brown thing that retains the ribbon cable in the connecter on Mobo.

I have a dead mobo, I will have a look later to see if its removeable from the connector.

If it is U can have it.

Well, it is removeable but you have to bend out the end retaining tabs on the connecter slightly (whilst using a magnifying glass). Unfortunately, although I only moved the ends out the minimum distance needed they both snapped off.

The brown tab is fine but if your retaining tabs that it swivels in(on each end of the the connector) are broken it won’t attach. If they are still intact they might not be after you attempt to fit the brown part.

Yes, it was on ebay, the guy insisted on doing a buy it now but with no paypal.

He failed to mention that he had broken off and lost the brown tab from the keyboard ribbon connector or that he had lost 8 of the 12 screws holding the laptop together.

I should have known better, but he claimed to be on the level and it was just the keyboard that required replacement, this is my first bad experience on ebay up to now its been brilliant.

I am wondering if the brown tab does not connect, is there another option/way to hold the ribbon on to the connector, or is the mobo terminal.

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem.

I ARRANGED IT PUTTING A PIECE OF PLASTIC USED FOR RADIOGRAPHIES AND I STAY VERY WELL
