They do have a fugly 2 piece Core 2 Extreme Edition desktop unit in Japan, which marks the first time Sony has made the more expensive Extreme Edition processor available, but in the US, the ancient Pentium D is their strongest desktop and it is the longest time I’ve ever seen them wait to release a new desktop!

They might as well skip the Core 2 Duo and go straight to the Core 2 Quad, but knowing them they won’t…

P.S. If they had just updated the Digital Living System with Core 2 Extreme and a Blu-Ray drive, they would have had a hit for the holidays!  I know I would have bought it!

Ye, I agree. The Digital Living System with Blu-Ray was released in Europe and Japan, but for some reason the US release of XL series has been stalled. Also LA/LS series is no longer on the SonyStyle.com ... real nice design. In Japan they release that beauty with Blu-Ray as well. I think Sony US is gonna get those Blu-Ray desktops out at CES 2007.

Hmm, I do see that Europe has Core 2 and Blu-Ray, but as far as I can tell at vaio.sony.co.jp, they have the same unit as we do, actually worse, because the graphics card is only a 6200.  Strange, but they should be the first with the new stuff, maybe their site is outdated…

Ever wonder why they use a midrange processor in the XL series, you could argue that it might need a beefy processor, but why not at least offer it?  The 2 models they’ve had in the states have had 2.8GHz processors, why not 3.0GHz, it is a much smoother number for a smooth looking machine!

Well, as of today on SonyStyle, the 310G desktop is absent, making the XL2 the only desktop available, if you can even call it a desktop.  This is pitiful…

If the only thing we have to look forward to is that fugly 2 piece unit from Japan, Sony better hope they’re selling lots of notebooks…

Well, the 2 piece unit dubbed RM in the US debuted and then vanished, still no Sony desktop computer to speak of…

It sure did vanish, but not for long. I believe there were a few bugs with software and Vista, so they are getting that taken care of before they ship it out to customers.

Doesn’t look like the RM will ever be back, 10 year anniversary of VAIO and still no US desktop available!?!  Very strange…
