Actually i did a little bit of looking around on the net about the original price of the CP since it looked suspicious that it would have been selling for “only” 3grant whereas the sp was around 4 grant ....and all I have found was confusion…some sites say it was at times selling for even more then the SP in Japan and others talk about around $3000 ..some site even said that Dynamism or Kemplar removed it because it was way too expensive to import (compared to the P and SP) ....well I do not know..but if it is a matter of stats the CP has the best package of all the x505’s hence it would seem strange to be selling for less then the SP. I would not mind knowing for a fact what the original price was and the original press release for the CP…
Anybody knows any info on this? (unfortunately i do not speak japanese so those jap. sites tell me nothing:) )
No ideas on exchange rates at that time, all I know was that it did not come with all the accessories that the x505p came with in order to bring the price down. There was a 7 month gap between the x505p and x505cp
Do you know anything about the price of SP vs. CP at any given time?
Since they are both carbon fiber (actually CP is also faster, lighter and newer) I would have hard time understanding Sony would have (and could have) sold them for such a different price tag if they were ever selling parallel to each other!
Actually do you guys know of a really good English link that explains the “birth” of the CP and it’s development (even in comparison to the other model x505’s) I have only found reviews on the P and SP models but none focusing on the CP or comparing the CP to the rest.
The x505cp lid looks like the current generation SZ series premium. It uses carbon fibre but has a black coating that is non shiny and hard to see the carbon fibre patterns unless held to the light at a certain angle where you can see faint traces of the pattern.
I believe the sp had a clear coat above the carbon fibre that allowed you to see the pattern clearly and made it shiny and prone to fingerprints.

Well of course I am partial, but I think the elegant balck matt finish of the CP is unbeatable! I actually went just yesterday to the ibggest sony dealer to look around and I do not think I have found a finish as nice as the CP’s!
and yes, you can not go anywhere without those eyes glancing at you!
ooh and you still know it is the same (if not better, I have read somewhere) carbon fiber casing as the SP’s just lighter and it has a faster CPU (well as well!
The matt black look is very elegant but not as distinctive n unique as the sp glossy finish. Sony released a SZ with the same glossy carbon look as the sp for the SZ but it was Japanese release only.
I prefer the sp look but want the extra .1G performance of the cpu in the cp as well. 1.0 G is a bit slow for watching h264 videos, kinda torn between the 2 but really want a bigger hdd definitely.
Well just to add even more confusion to which one prefers…I have read that the CP’s technology utilizing carbon is “better” then was used on the SP and later on throughout their sales the CP became more and more expensive as time progressed to a point where dynamism could only afford to import the P and SP model!
i’m pretty sure i remember it being 250,000 yen in japan. This price doesnt match up overseas as for example i could land a TR new for $2000 aussie but here in the shops it sold for $3499.
Currently you can pick up X505’s when they come up in Japan for around $1000 aussie (maybe 700ish USD)
