Hiya, i’m kinda new to the forum and was noticed something that had me a bit perplexed and was wondering if anyone could clarify it for me.

What is the difference between:
    VAIO PCG-TR Series PCG-TR3A
    VAIO PCG-TR Series PCG-TR3AP1
    VAIO PCG-TR Series PCG-TR3AP2
    VAIO PCG-TR Series PCG-TR3AP3

According to what i’m looking at on my TR the little model number thingy at the top left(of keyboard) says PCG-TR3AP but no number after that.  what model do i have exactly?  i want to be able to upgrade it eventually but at worried that i may mess up due to compatibility issues?  can anyone help me out? :D
i’m pretty sure the P part means pro, cuz my sis has the same laptop but hers is only TR3A which has windows xp home while mine has XP pro..

The PCG-TR3A had Windows XP Home Edition installed on it. The three other PCG-TR3APx had Windowx XP Professional Edition on them. The number designation between the three simply indicate the configurations that the systems came in.

In terms of hardware configurations, this is what each came with.

PCG-TR3A -  1GHz, 512MB, 40GB HDD, DVD/CDRW
PCG-TR3AP1 - 1GHz, 512MB, 40GB HDD, DVD/CDRW
PCG-TR3AP2 - 1GHz, 1GB, 40GB HDD, DVD/CDRW
PCG-TR3AP3 - 1GHz, 1GB, 40GB HDD, DVDRW/CDRW

So then if my model number says PCG-TR3AP and has no number designated behind it, i’m assuming then that i have PCG-TR3AP1.
I have windows XP pro on it and according to my system config i’m running on 508Mb of Ram(which i’m guessing is just the 512Mb and ihave the DVD/CD
btw thanks for the clarifcation. if i knew there had been diff model #‘s would have opted for the one with DVD burner….guess its time to learn how to put one in LoL

OK then what is the difference between the TR1, TR2 and TR3 models? I am looking to get one to replace my Sony R505TS thats a little long in the tooth and the TR series would fill those shoes nicely.

All I know is that the TR1s have a 900 mhz Pentium M processor, the TR2/3 have 1 giz speed and TR5s have 1.1 ghz.

Also, the TR1 had 802.11b only. TR2/3/5 had 802.11b/g. Of course, if you lived in Japan and had a JDM then the TR1 had 802.11a/b and the TR2/3/5 had 802.11a/b/g.

My model is the smallest (cpu-related) with an Intel Celeron M 800MHz. But with bigger HDD (40GB), better WLAN (b/g), faster CD-burner (16x) than european TR1MP. Of course BT integrated! And: was much more cheaper.
Any other infos needed?? Don’t hesitate!
