I have one of those “old” PCG-505TR Vaios. When I try to turn it on (its plugged into the wall, and there is no battery), nothing happens. :( No lights, no sounds, no nothing. After opening it up, I used a volt meter to see if voltage was getting into the unit (I was having problems with that before), and found for a fact that there is power in there, I tested the prongs on the back where the battery plugs on to and there is the 16ish volts showing up. So, what should I do? It is such a nice little laptop, and I would like it to get it working again. Thanks!!!  :D

is your DC plug solder on the board?  my TX had the same problem, but mine is from a ac-dc plug and go to the main board thru another plug, and the wire between the ac-dc plug and the plug connected to the motherboard was bad, after cutting those out and reconnect with some good wire, it works again

The DC Jack is a unit thing, It is soldered onto a little board and four wires go from that to the main board. Here’s what it looks like:

yea, it is almost same as TX, mine is the yellow DC plug and have wire directly solder on the back of that DC plug.  because it always uses small wire (26 ga and below), wire could be burn out or something.  so i suggest to take that plug out, and then plug the dc in, then use the volt meter to check the voltage from the white plug, then move or shake the wire to see if that discontinue the current.  if so, just get some good quality 22ga wire and group 3 positive and 3 negative together into 2 wires, that should solve all the drama on that, i did mine and i felt so stupid that i didnt fix that 6 month ago…....
