I don’t know how it happened, but I have a 1” crack in the upper right part of my screen. It’s still usable- but the 1/2 ” black blob that formed is distracting and sometimes blocks the close button and search bars.
Sony wants over $740 to replace this screen on a 8 month old notebook!!! I love the size and weight of this TX, but I can buy a new notebook for a little more than that - maybe dual core!
Does anyone know of another company that will replace these LCD screens cheaper?? Or, wanna make me an offer?
For about $600, you can replace it yourself from a screen from sparepartswarehouse.com. They get it directly from Sony. They will charge you a core charge of $500 until you return the cracked screen to them. Piece of cake to replace the screen.
If you can find someone from Asia to get you one, they are only about $300.

should be fairly easy to sell, even here on this forum as parts machine/fixer upper. PM me if you don’t want to replace the screen
Ever thought about asking the companys that do nothing but parting out laptops?
If youre lucky you could get a cheap replacement screen there.
Try Hong Kong PC centre. They have tons of laptop parts. Try your luck and call them. They are in Hong Kong but they offer international shipping at low rates.
Your screen should be fixed for free since you are still under warranty. If you have a sales receipt to prove that you fall within 12 months period they will take care of it.
I will consider all these options, but I’m in the US and not very technically inclined. I still use it daily because the 1/2” by 1 1/2” “Black spot in the corner hasn’t grown. But it does block the google search window sometimes.
Sony said it was not covered, as it was damaged. I bought it to replace my previous Vaio because of the “extra strong and lightweight carbon fiber lid”.
I might put it on Ebay (with screen pictures) and see what I can get, cause I’ve got $2100 into it just 8 months ago!!!
As I type this, an auction for a VGN-TX750P will end in a few hours and I’d like to win it. Its for the unit only with a cracked screen which I’d like to replace.
Aren’t there any cheaper screens here in the U.S? I saw an Ebay auction just today for the TX screen which was between $600-700 and sparepartswarehouse charges about $1000 for the screen and around $600 if you send in the old cracked one.
you can get one from sony direct http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/web/productSearch.do for around 500 dollars just search the part number A1149391a it will tell you that this item was discontinued and replaced with A1178395A and your getting it straight from sony. I dont think there is a core charge.
I’ve also been looking at another Vaio TX which is in perfect condition except for a one inch white vertical line running down the screen. Do you need to get a new screen for that or is there a cheaper repair such as maybe the cables or other parts being repaired/replaced? I’m a complete newbie at this sort of thing, thanks!
