Hi, I really need your opinion, Im planning on purchasing a TX850, after reading some of the posts in the forum I noticed a lot of you showed a lot of concern on the fan noise.. so this are my questions:
Is the fan noise really that bad?
Would games such as The sims 2, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Flight Simulator and Call of Duty would be able to run without problems?(I mean I dont expect a lot but at least being able to play them)
How fast it is? (while copying and moving folders etc..)

I very much doubt that the games you list will be playable at all on the TX - you require graphics with hardware transform and lighting for those titles, which the TX just hasn’t got.

The TX is not a gaming machine, although I’m having some fun with a number of 2d retro titles (stronghold, AOE 2, Baldurs Gate 2 etc), if you want to lay games then maybe you should be a considering an S series, which I think is actually cheaper than the TX.

As for fan noise - I’ve heard worse, my TX3’s fan noise is noticeable, but it doesn’t whine like my old S series did.

As for speed, I use mine for web development, and graphics work and its fine for both those tasks. The dual core SZ series will be MUCH faster however, and probably more suited to your needs based on your post.

Hmm I wonder what their testing criteria was - Doom 3 on the TX???

Many of the games in that list will run, but will be unplayable, or barely so in their lowest setting possible.

I sold my Dell XPS M1710 recently as I needed to get away from buying all the latest games - it was costing me a fortune in both productivity and money, so I find the TX3 will only allow me to play older games - in fact the most demanding game I can run graphically is probably Freelancer. I have been revisiting some old classics lately, which are offering tons more entertainment than games such as Prey or Quake IV etc..

Oni and Midtown Madness work great I’ve found. I even bought a Logitech steering wheel for Midtown Madness with FOrce Feedback. Oni is a cool 3D anime style fighting game, unique because your 3rd person operated heroine Konoko can use many hand to hand combinations as well as various weapons to fight with. Very old games but tons of fun and work great on even my Sony T250. Oni runs like butter 1024x768 full wide screen mode.

I’ve found more games work on my TX than on my TR, due to the improved Intel integrated gfx chip etc. Rise of Nations turned in to a lag fest during later stages on my TR1MP, but seems to do quite well on the TX, as does Dungeon Siege, which I never got around to finishing..
