Hi there peeps,

Im planning on visiting New York in September for around 3-4 months, does anyone know or have a room to sublet or likewise?

pref. in Manhattan? any help wpuld be greatly appreciated.

Craigslist is probably your best bet. Don’t overlook Hoboken NJ or (parts of) Brooklyn either.

the main reason i wanted to be in manhattan was because i want to experience new york city, is there a good reason to choose brooklyn or NJ? btw i was also looking at Astoria?

$ - although some parts of NJ rival NYC housing costs, Hoboken isn’t one of them.

Astoria is queens.

The best reason to look at Brooklyn and Hoboken (and Astoria for that matter) is cost vs Manhattan. I’d also suggest looking at Brooklyn because you get a different feel for NY. Brooklyn (at least parts like Park Slope, Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Brooklyn Heights) and Astoria have a vibrant culture of their own comparable to the City and are within easy reach of Manhattan tourist and night spots by subway. And let’s face it, if you live in Manhattan, you automatically become a snob and won’t go to Brooklyn or Queens unless you have to.

Haha. He just doesn’t want to be labeled bridge and tunnel.

Look on Roosevelt Island (which is almost Manahattan but not really) you need to take the Tram across the river.  its a little strange but if your looking to save a few bucks and something is available it might be a good way.

I remember a friend telling me how much it would normally cost to live in NYC (he lives in a Columbia Uni subsidised apartment as staff) and I didn’t believe him, until I took a walk and saw a sign advertising a one bedroom studio for $3000 a month! Ouch.
