I am thinking of getting a TR2MP in the uk. I know little about pc’s as I am a confirmed mac user. I currently run the latest apple powerbook which has airport extreme. I also use the airport extreme base station. Will I be able to use this with the sony, and will it have the same bandwith that I get at the moment. I am unsure what comes with the sony in the wireless department.

What is the band width you currently have with your airport extreme? I have the TR2MP, it has 802.11g and integrated Bluetooth (where US model doesn’t have 8) ). Apparently I’m being able to connect at 54Mbps with no problem..  :D I assume your airport extreme base station is compatible with pc, and I can’t see there are any problem to connect it with TR2MP.  8)

Get the TR2MP and I’m sure you are going to love this baby…!

I believe the TR2MP supports both 802.11b and g. Airport Extreme is just Applese for 802.11g.

I am also using a Sony TR3AP2 and currently own a bunch of different Macs also.  One of the Macs is a PB G4 15” 1.25ghz running extreme and I have (3) Airport Extreme base stations working as a roaming wirele4ss network.  I have NO issues connecting to my base stations and get full 802.11g speed. Also FYI, the Apple Airport Extreme basestation is a 802.11b and g.

The only problem that I encountered was the WPA security where my TR3 would loose IP and would reassign a selfmade ip address.  I have not had enough time to play around, so for now I have closed my network ssid and am using MAC address protection.

i’m using AirPort Extreme Base Station as well, no problem whatsoever.

Are you using WPA ?  If so any dropped network connection ?

No issues, since you are using OS X and especially 10.3.3 has enhanced windows conectivity even more but more on the server side of things.  I actually have a Cube acting as a server running 10.3.3 but you could esily use file sharing to access each others files between the TR3 and the PB 15”

Cheers, I have a month or so to wait before I can get the sony but I am looking forward to it. What can you tell me about what I can expect from this machine in terms of performance compaired to the 1.25 ghz powerbook that I am writing this on. I would just like to say that it is great to find a forum that isn’t bashing one os over another. I was unsure as to how a mac user would be taken but I am happy to have found a good computer community. I look forward to contributing more to the forum when I get my machine.
