Hello, I’m new to this forum, so naturally this is my first time posting and I have no idea what kind of response I am going to get. Here’s hoping though, that it will solve my problems.
I have a PCG-TR5C that I bought from China just a month ago when I was on a business trip there. The price there was around 2/3 of what I would of paid here (7300RMB, like 900 US with tax).. overall pretty good deal, that’s what I thought.
Upon arriving back, I decided to change the Windows XP to English as I cannot read Chinese, thinking it is an easy feat.
I first made a MSDOS boot up disc from my desktop, and successfully cleared C:\, then I started installation of an original Windows XP SP2 that came with my desktop. The Windows I knew wasn’t branded as I had also installed it on my other laptop without a problem. I even though I was smart, downloading all the drivers from VAIO support website and burning them to disc.
So after installing Windows (the genuine XP key at the bottom of my laptop doesn’t work, I’m assuming it only works with Chinese editions.) I start it up and start installing drivers.
Thinking it’s all done, I restart the computer.
Uhoh… after the restart, the motion eye doesnt work, buttons don’t work, no widescreen, in fact it’s like I never installed any drivers at all.
This is where the first problem starts.. I cannot find my recovery CDs, there not in my bag, nowhere.. I must have left them in China.
So here I have now like a 7” laptop that doesn’t have any features…
So I have a few questions:
1) If I order the recovery CDs from Sony, I cannot get the TR5C.. only AP or A.. will it work?
2) If I get another recovery CD from Sony China with the TR5C version on it, will it just take me back to Chinese Windows XP?
3) Is there any way I can obtain the drivers without ordering the CDs?
4) Other than the drivers, is there any other benefit of using the VAIO recovery CDs?
I know this is a lot, but if anyone can help me, it will be much much much appreciated.. I’m really stuck right now.. don’t know what to do.. Sony customer chat helped me even less..
Im counting on your guys!
Thanks
