Oh no, I’ve just ordered a replacement camera for my TR and I’ve discovered that the pictures in this tutorial are gone…!

Looks like the pictures are still on the server.

Regarding the suspected intermittent contact:
I have seen reports of two types of faults of the camera.
[list]* White display (this also happens when you insert the cable the wrong way)
* Weak light.[/list:u]
I suspect that the white screen is caused by bad contact,
but that the fault where only strong lights (such as flashlights) can be seen in the cam is caused by a faulty cam.
Has any one been able to “shake” life into a noisy black motioneye?

I purchased a UVC-11A webcam and took out the CCD then put it in my Vaio TR2 and it worked, just to confirm that it was the CCD that was the problem, I put the old one from my Vaio into the UVC-11A and guess what - it was dead… each case is different, firstly check the connection, but most likely it’s the CCD that’s at fault.

Many thanks bushman! My motion eye hinge was loose and I needed to disassemble the casing to tighten it. Your description and pictures were right on! In minutes I had it apart, tightened the “red arrow” screw, and had it reassembled. My 2 year old TR3 thanks you as well.  :D

I check the sony store at south coast and they dont have this webcam anymore and sonystyle.com are out of these things…. does anyone know the part number for the spare camera? not the USB webcam (PCGA-UVC11A)

i think i might have to order just the lens from sony part search and replace this broken motion eye =(

My TR2B motion eye also gone…. :cry:

I wonder if I have the special accolade of being the first person whose replacement UVC11a camera has gone phut. It lasted nearly six months of moderate use (though I rather doubt it’s use that busts ‘em).

I’ve taken the thing apart and given the cables a wiggle, but no joy. The rather awkwardly twisted ribbon cable looks reasonably okay after this time, so I can only assume that it’s the same problem rearing its ugly head again, and that the UVC11a isn’t really a huge improvement on the UVC11.

This Sony CCD issue is also present in the digital camera of multiple brands. There is a lawsuit against sony and sony is replacing digital camera ccd FOC even after warranty period. Read the major digital camera recall at http://www.dpreview.com or google it.

Our TR1a motion eye is clearly another case of the same design defect! We should be compensated or get it repair FOC. Damn SOny will never buy one of its products anymore!

i thought our TR’s webcam uses CMOS chip.

Sony has newer USB cam VGP-UVC100 which is 1.3M pixel, can we replace the CMOS sensor with this new one ?

Good point. It wouldnt even have to be a Sony.

I believe that the 4 wire connector is just a USB cable.

The problem is:

How do we know other PCB&CMOS; sensors would fit into that little case?
