Hi there ive just reicently bought a Segate Momentus 100GB 7200 HD for my S2XP which had a hard drive failure.  Can anyone let me know (before i strip all my machine) if this will work with no worries on my 1.5 yr old Sony VGN-S2XP?

Does your system still boot up? If so, you can check the device manager to see what type of ATA controller is being used. If you see SATA enabled then it’s likely using the SATA connector.

I suspect it’s a regular IDE drive as most specs I’ve seen for the S2XP show that it’s not SATA. I believe only the SZ models use SATA hard drives.
