OK…I’m looking for some feedback on some of you Sony whores who were once married to Nokia phones.  You know who you are.  I’m talking about those of you who knew the menu tree in the Nokia’s so well you could set your alarm, check call timers, last three received calls, and pull up the calander in less than a few button clicks.

I’m looking at some of the phones SE is coming out with and I must say, the design and professional look is certainly worth considering.  I’m tired of watching Nokia make phones that appeal to your average punk middle school kid!  Its just that Nokia phones have the easiest user interface on the planet!  What a convenience this is.

What I’m asking is will it be worth the switch or will I wish I hadn’t commited cellular adultery against Nokia?

I guess a lot depends on your luck when it comes to mobile phones. I made the switch from Nokia to SE T610 last year. There are a couple of reasons why I made the choice.

Same as you, I am sick with Nokia’s innovation. Their creativity is nothing more than just changing the cover and shifting the buttons. I wanted something new, sleek and has BT. SE T610 fits the bill perfectly.

As a seasoned nokia user, you won’t get used to SE as the buttons are direct opposite of each other. I, however, got used to SE’s interface in abt 1 month. Not too bad, eh? 

The pain now is the usage of the BT ear piece. It does not pick up the calls as fast as I had wished, and thus I ended cancelling a lot of calls when the intention is to pick up.  :x Also, by the time it really pick up the call, the caller hit the busy tone…. there are simply too much frustrations for this SE T610. Some of my friends are equally frustrated with their T610 while some are very happy with it. I regret making the switch and is now waiting for Nokia 6230 to be launched.

If you ask me, I would say the reliability of the phone is the most important. I can get used to some lousy user interface, but I can’t accept a phone that cannot receives calls well.

I recently switched from a long line of Nokia phones to a Sony Ericsson T616, and the transition was easy. It took a while learning my way around the menus and controls, but the extra features and nice design were big pluses.

On a related note, it seems like a lot of the new Nokias have funky and tough to use keypad designs, almost as if the designers were drinking on the job. Have a look:

Thanks so far for your feedback, guys!  This info really causes me to have a “wait and see” disposition.  Ericsson was a suck company until Sony merged with them.  More and more I am seeing Sony’s innovation have an impact on production models, but the reliability DeathStar mentioned with regard to call pick up is not worth sacrificing.  I have always had great reliability experience with Nokia.  Let’s see if Sony’s innovation can make the user interface and reliability evolve into what Nokia has build over the years.  OR…perhaps Nokia could stop drinking on the job, as you say, and just build a small no frills phone for the professional like the “8390” was a few years ago.

did you really like the 8390?? i thought that thing has a piece of junk.  maybe it’s because i look for a phone that actually feels good in my hands and take that in to account when i buy a phone.  to tell you the truth i’ve had my 8890 for a while now and i couldn’t be happier.  i’ve thought about getting a color phone with a camera and all that good stuff, but can’t seem to part with my luvly 8890.  it’s got nice line, feels solid in my hand and the slide down cover still does it for me.  i’ve been looking at new phones, but the new plastic phones don’t do it for me. anyone know of something that has a little weight to it, something not plastic, that i could possibly change to?

The appeal of the 8390 was obviously size.  This is the same reason why I chose the Sony TR.  However, the 8390 was recalled for some reason.  My point with regard to the phone is that Nokia had made some major progress with reducing phone size and still maintaining the same funtionality that all Nokia users have come to love.  The 8890 is a nice piece as well.  I like the flip feature so you don’t have to remember Keyguard all the time. :wink:

I’ve just ordered a Sony/Ericsson Bluetooth phone (T616) and am wondering what headsets/car kits people use and what accessories they have. I’m wanting a BT capability to use when I travel with my TR and can’t use WiFi.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I had a SE T68, P800 and now a SE P900 just voted best smartphone (in UK anyway). Great as a phone, great as a PDA. Bought my TR as an accessory for it

Had P900 then XDA2 then went back to a P900. XDA2 great as a PDA but just too big as a phone & Symbian OS in P900 far more stable.

If you want a phone with PDA functions then go for P900.

PDA/phone/multimedia powerhouse then the XDA2 is great but battery life probably only half of P900 in everyday use.

went from nokia 8890 to se t616 then finally to t630. was determined to purchase the p900 until i found out that it doesn’t work well with fma. its amazing what you can do with t616/t610/T630 with fma via bluetooth. unless nokia has sofwares that can do the same, i think i will stick to sony ericsson’s for a while.

that should be the se t68i..its cheap and it gets the job done. most people get it to pair them with their ux50 or bluetooth enabled pdas.

ive had nokia for over 10yrs and switched to a p900 about 3 mths ago.
as a pda gadget device its great. as a phone i hate it. having to use anything except your thumb to make a call seems so unreasonable!
saying that ive tried my friends 6600 and that seems to want to fall out the top of your hand when you text, so perhaps i changed at the right time. my thumb just has to remeber where to put spaces not dashes.
how long before they start making retro phones with upto date platforms?

I have a T610 on T-mobile and I used it to sync with Outlook using Bluetooth - no problem.

The sync features of the T610 are excellent.

I’ve just moved to Orange with a Mortorola V500, which isn’t any where near as compatible, but I got it to work eventually…

Anyone want a T-mobile T610? for £75?
