I was wondering if someone knew how this can be done. I have a w600i with cingular and want to use dialup during off peak hours. So basically I want to connect to compuserve or some other dialup service through my cell phone (since I don’t have a landline or broadband at the place I’m staying).

Hi Rahul

first of all make sure you have HSCSD feature in the mobile network which allow the dial up connection to internet using mobile. If your phone has an inbuilt dialup modem, there must be a feature to activate it. I assume you have already installed the necessary Drivers etc in your PC.

You have to crate a Dial up network connection on PC specifying the number to be dialled, username, password etc the way setup a normal dial up connection. Make sure that you chose your Phone as Modem for this connection.

Now you should be able to connect net using your phone -> connected to PC via Data Cable.

Above may sound immmature to you since am not sure if you were looking for it or some other details.

High Speed Circuit Switched Data is not currently offered by Cingular.

Thanks for the replies guys. My w600 does show up as a modem in the control panel so I downloaded the compuserve software and used it to try to get access numbers for the Atlanta area. I noticed on my cell phone that it dials some 877 number but within a second stops. I guess that’s because HSCSD is not offered by cingular as mentioned by linc. Does tmobile offer it? If yes, I can regret my decision to switch to cingular even more then :cry: (had to give up my w800 and now this problem)

Have you set the modem properties to not wait for a dial tone?

I have Cingular and can use my cell phone as a modem (albeit at fairly slow speed).  I don’t use anyone’s front-end software .. just Windows dial-up networking.

That’s interesting…I’ll have to try that dialtone trick.  I usually use my BT dongle to get my X505 online through by Treo 650 and Cingular, but since I do not have a landline I have been wanting to use either my 650 or V3 RAZR to send faxes via WinFax.  I have a hardware PC Modem that recognizes the V3 RAZR as a modem, but it ends up cancelling out the send when WinFax initiates the dialing.  Maybe b/c of that pause for dialtone…

tr2—> bluetooth—> phone—> t-mobile gprs. 

modem slow.  modem works anywhere.  oh well.  gets things done. 

oh just fyi… make sure you have dial up network enabled on your computer.
