Your right, the TR is fantastic, the TX… yawn… no motion eye, ugly colors on the screen, what else… oh, not so nice to look at either.
yes and another part is the tr doesnt really lose its value, considering its been on the market now for about nearly 3 years, it still sells for 2 thirds of the original sale price and it is revolutionary because other companies have had a go at copying it, and may i say, they’re absolute crap lol, especially acer, i am interested in another portable at the moment, the new fujitsu flybook, but its a tablet, and with tablet comes hinge problems!!!!! 8) the only annoying thing is my motion eye doesnt work, but im on the case at the moment

I just fixed my motion eye camera, it was very easy, I did it in less than five minutes. I purchased a Vaio webcam from ebay, took out the ccd and put in in my vaio and was up and running immediatly.
I’ve had many people asking me if I’d sell them my Vaio TR2… it’s funny because I got it a long time ago… and I got it for an incredible price in Singapore. One year after I got my TR2, the TR3 came out here in Italy and it cost 1000 euro more than what I paid! I can sell my Vaio second hand for the same I paid for it, years later!
Cool!
But I don’t want to sell it because there is no other computer that is better!
yes i had a few problems with buying a camera, unfortunately there is a guy selling fake UVC11A’S on ebay, i got all excited waiting for it in the post, opened the thing up, and it was all intergrated and had ‘‘VIMICRO’’ written over it, but i managed to get half my money back, as i now use that webcam as a ccd lens for my telescope if you want to see some of the pics of the moon, jupiter etc, just ask, theyre all edited and taken using my tr as i made a mount for it to clip onto the side of the telescope tripod!!!! this baby’s size is perfect, you wouldnt look good enough with a standard 15 inch screen notebook lol

You’re right but NO WAY does it hold the price as well as on this ebay item!! The sellers quoting a retail price on zdnet from 3yr ago!
I nagged my friend for a long time to buy his TR and I finally got it :D everything still works perfect. It’s come to a good home and NO WAY will I be selling it, not now I’ve finally got my hands on it!
I still have my TR (ok, well my woman now has it)...I don’t think I’ll ever sell it though. It’s the system I take on trips since it’s small enough, still has great battery life, and it’s just plain fun. While it wasn’t the first subnotebook, it certainly was the one that raised the bar in the market. If not for the TR and similar systems from Fujitsu (who I credit as the first in the market of “loaded” ultraportables) we wouldn’t have all of these cool systems. Don’t get me wrong, we would have ultraportables but I don’t think they would have evolved so fast.
I usually sell and replace my computer every two years if not sooner. This TR3 hit the two year mark and I still have no desire to replace it. It lost the labels on the underside due to long term heat exposure; it’s dented on the rear corner from a drop while in Yosemite last year; and I’ve disassembled it a few times for minor repairs and it’s still going strong.
I did love the TR and actually of all my ultra portables only the U3 got more comments. People actually did come up and ask about it and I lost count of the times my Wife mentioned other students asked her about it at Uni. But the U3 got comments because it was just so damn small, and it runs XP Pro! I dispute (in the nicest way possible) that they sell for 2/3 the original price though. Having bought and sold lots of subnotebooks the only machine capable of that sort of feat is the U101.
The TR is a slick looking machine but you can’t really dispute the fact that the T series and the TX series are evolutionarily better. Smaller, faster, bigger better screen, longer battery life, etc. But they are expensive, so value for money the TR is still a hell of a buy.

I’d have to agree 2/3 is a bit extreme as my ebay link above shows, but compared to other laptops the TR holds its price rather well, I haven’t seen any go for less than £500 on ebay even without a working cam, there’s only a handful of laptops that can do that 3yrs on and there probably all Sony!
Yeah in evolutionary terms the T and TX are better but while they may out perform the TR as I’m sure most of the newer laptops on ebay going for less than £500 do. The TR’s design, especially the integrated webcam makes it stand out from the crowd for me. IMHO that and the fact it doesn’t compromise on any of the features of a standard laptop (pointing device etc) is what gives the TR cult status among sub-notebooks, well for me anyway!
Yea ... I am loving my TR ... after more than 2 years, it’s still my main computer! The only prob is that the battery lifespan is almost up ... it drops from 40% to 0% immediately and it seems that US law does not allow batteries to be shipped??? Or at least that’s what my local post office here told me ... sigh ... i am still in search for my BP3T ... :?
