Anyone out there using a Nokia 8910i successfully via Bluetooth with their TR?

I’ve got a TR1MP and I’m thinking of buying the 8910i to connect via GPRS and Bluetooth on the road. Thing is, the 8910i isn’t exactly a new phone and I wondered how well Bluetooth is implemented in it.

Sounds like you havn’t bought the phone yet.  Why that phone?  You mentioned that it is older.  Why not get a newer modern phone?  Then your questions about connectivity would almost fade.  Just a thought. :wink:

I’d avoid early Nokia BT-enabled phones. If you want a cheap BT phone with solid BT, see if you can find a SE T68i.

The Nokia 8910i may be showing its age, but I’m attracted to it mainly for its aesthetic qualities - it looks the business, especially the titanium casing.

I’ve already got a Sony Ericsson T610 which works v well with the TR, but I’m just really drawn to the 8910i, despite its bonkers price tag…

I hear you there. I kept wishing that Nokia would come out with a 8990 until I got my T68. My guess is that they locked the designer of the 8890 in a room alone for a couple of years to design it. Then they let him design the 7200. The rest of the designers they must have gotten when they closed the mental institutes here.

Originally i had no joy whatsoever getting my TR1MP to use my 8910i as a bluetooth modem, as bluespace ne was essentially useless, however having just recently updated bluespace ne from sony i decided to give it another go, and to my suprise it all works flawlessly, and i can connect via Orange GPRS with consumate ease.

Now i just have to hope that when i change over to a TR2MP and a Nokia 6230 soon it will be just as easy.

Hope this helps you make you decision, i actually got my 8910i to replace my SE P800 for £270, but as it cost £500 at the time i couldn’t pass up on a phone that looks and feels this nice (even if it does lack most of the features of more modern phones).

Thanks! That’s exactly the answer I’ve been waiting for. I shall be buying the 8910i shortly.

As you say, it lacks a few features of newer phones (polyphonic tones, camera etc) but I never use the camera on my T610, and I don’t like polytones anyway. I had a look at the 8910i in a Carphone Warehouse and just fell for it.

I intend to buy it sim-free and use it with my Orange subscription, so it looks like I’ll be using the same set-up as the one that works for you.
