Hi all, the unthinkable has happened.  My TR3A, which has been my primary PC for the past several months is not booting.  It gets to the windows logo with the bar rolling at the bottom, and fails to progress any further.  It does boot into safemode, but with only 1/2 the screen and of course most functionalities removed.  I’d hate to think it’s a hdd failure as I replaced it only a few months ago.  Does anyone have any ideas how I can troubleshoot?  Any help appreciated.  Thanks.

Sounds like a microsoft problem to me!!! get yourself into safe mode, backup all your data on dvd or if you have an external hard drive, run the files and settings transfer, which can be done in dos and perform a clean install of xp onto your system, another idea is to purchase a program called ‘‘system mechanic 6.0’’ it luckily runs in safemode, may also find a start up / registry error in the boot defrag process, i’ve had the same problem on several pc’s that ive fixed in the past, no need to worry as of yet, by any chance, have you installed any kind of program such as ‘‘windows blinds’’ or style xp? these can also mess up your system, deleting crucial files and replacing them ui with coding that is not fully compatible with xp 8)

Vaio is up and running again.  Thanks davemaxvaio for the prompt post .. sorry didn’t post earlier, but life’s been super busy.  Basically, wish I could say what may have caused this, but it started booting ok after a turning it on/off a couple of times.  I have backed up my HDD, so i don’t panic if this happens again.
